The general convenor of the bazaar was Mrs. Alma Hart, and her committees consisted of : Bake Tables-Mrs. Eirene Harness, Mrs. Mavis Slater and Mrs, Marg Handel. Top businesses receive NOB Awards in Timmins The third Annual Northern Ontario Business Awards were handed out Nov. 8 in Timmins. Six awards were given to com- panies and individuals from Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Kenora, and Timmins. Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Gaston Malette, prin- cipal builder of Timmins-based Malette Inc. Malette is chairman of the board, chief executive offi- cer and president of the company which he and his brother, Renald, founded under the original name of Malette & Frercs in 1952. Malette Inc. is a leading manu- facturer of waferboard panels and high-density particleboard and one of Canada's top pulp produc- ers. The six divisions of the com- pany reported combined sales of $103.29 million and net earnings of $12.7 million for a nine-month period ending June 30. Young Entrepreneur of the Year was awarded to Sudbury's I. Murray Dodick Optometrist 1119 Victoria Avenue Thunder Bay, Ontario P7C 1B7 Colleen Clancy who owns and operates a dance and modelling studio. Clancy started dancing at the age of three and at 12 became an assistant instructor at the Gauvreau School of Performing Arts. She received her education by attending the Professional Modelling and Related Careers program at Sheridan College in Oakville, Ont and by studying business managcment at Cambrian College in Sudbury. Executive of the Year was awarded to Diane Pochailo who is the general manager of Vacationland Dairy Company Limited in Kenora. Pochailo started working in the dairy industry in 1970 but today is one of its most enthusias- tic spokesmen and one of only two women in the province who hold senior dairy management positions. Originally a part-time accoun- tant, the dairy grew and Pochailo ended up working full-time. She gained valuable management experience working on the Kenora District Separate School Board for eight years.
