Mona Holmes received her 50 year membership pin. Twenty- five year member pins were given to Marion Henri, Sheila Parent, Sue Speziale, Bet y Huard, Joyce Jaroz and Mary Commisso. Theresa Stortini received her Past President's Pin. Certificates of merit were given to Georgette Cebrario, Faye and Jim Figliomeni, Verna Leblanc, Theresa Stortini, Sandy Larivec and Janet Moorey. Beverly Hadland will speak at Holy Angels' Parish centre on Nov. 19 at 7:45 p.m. She is the founder of Straight Talk, a youth counselling service. She will speak on abortion. By Winnie Campbell The October general meeting of the Chimo Club was chaired by the president, Ken Davis. The minutes of the Septeinber meeting were read by the secre- tary, Helen Jartus, and approved asread. ~ The treasurer's report was given by Pat Guina and approved. Marg McKenna gave the card secretary's report in which she reported sending several get well cards to members in hospital at present. Pat Guina reported 155 mem- berships paid for 1989 and 1990 memberships are available. Nominations for new officers will take place at the November 17 meeting. A nominating com- mittec is being appointed to bring in a new slate of officers. Birthday grectings were sung to Leona Fournier, Betha Miller, Beth Macadam, and Celia Valentino. Al Slater showed a delightful film on the RCMP Musical Ride which was enjoyed by all. Lunch was served by the refreshment committee. Shuffleboard was played with the winners being: Ist - Tom Webb and Winnie Campbell; 2nd - Marg McKenna and Helen Jartus. Thanks to all who helped. From correspondence to classes, DAG 1s at it D.A.G. members were wel- . comed to the October meeting Thursday evening by Regent Shirley Mikus. Correspondence included an invitation to attend the opening of the March of Dimes offices in Long Lac and a thank you from Beta Sigma Phi for the presenta- tion on LIfeline. Members were very encour- aged.to-hear a letter from Mr. K. D. Ryan, Business adininistrator of the North of Superior District Roman Catholic Separate School Board, who informed them the new addition to the Holy Angels School in Schreiber will have an elevator from the ground level. The misunderstanding con- cerning motorized wheelchairs on the new pathway through Terrace Bay had been explained at the last council meeting. Electric wheelchairs and scooters are defi- nitely allowed on this walk. The E.M.O. list had been updated by Home Care Nurses and the Chimo Club in Schreiber. It is now in the hands of Red Cross Homemakers 'for comple- _tion. Many members had been available to attend a special meet- ing with Beryl Pottcr of the Ontario Action Awareness Association. This remarkable lady proved how tremendously vital a person could be despite the most severe handica)s suffered. Mrs. Potter discussed her goal of alerting the public to the spe- cial needs of the disabled. She strong!y advised never to sit back and accept your fatc, ut to fight to better your lot and that of oth- ers in similar situations. With her vast expericnce she gave good advice on how to be recognized and acknowledged. Mrs. Potter had also talked at Wedding Announcement We are very pleased to announce the marriage of our youngest son Brad to Joyce Glad, daughter of Jim and the late Sheila Glad. The marriage took place on Friday, October 6 in Sault Ste Marie. Bill & Anita Cook both high schools displaying her travelling and talkative compan- ion, "Mr. Grizzly". Salesman Jack Patterson topped her visit by sell- ing Mrs. Potter a D.A.G? mem- bership. Jack Patterson turned in $18 in membcrships sold and Pam Jones was reordering membership cards. Elizabeth McLean announced Lifeline was scheduled to be in by November 15. Elaine Mannisto had been advised by the Administrator to contact the Department of Northern Development and Mines in the absence of a reply. Pat Merkley displayed the updated Scrapbook. Vice-presi- dent Pat Auger agreed to serve on Handitransit's Steering Committee. Shirley reported changes had to be made in businesses to be surveyed this year by the high school students. Mr. Robert's "Man in Society" class is only held in Terocc Bay Campus this year.
