One reason for the praise is because Schooner is a female. Kenney said it is very rare for a female to place so high because male dogs are generally put up for show due to their stature. Following Schooner's impres- sive performance at the Dryden show, Kenney feels there's a good chance she may become one of the top five dogs in Canada. She'll be entering Schooner in another dog show this weekend in Thunder Bay during which Schooner will be trying to win Best of Breed once again. Schooner began competing in dog shows at the tender age of 8 months and even at that young age was performing well. She comes from a long line of win- ners - her parents and grandpar- ents were Canadian champions. Kenney purchased Schooner from. Ebony Lanes Kennels in Montreal - a kennel which Kenney says, "is one of the best." The cost of the dog, including registration and the flight from Montreal, came to $500.
