Wednesday, August 9, 1989 TERRACE BAY/SCHREIBER NEWS PAC formed to delve into Jackfish Bay pollution As a result of the 1985 Report of the Water Quality Board, the eight Great Lakes states and the Province of Ontario have com- mitted themselves to developing a remedial action plan (RAP) to restore all beneficial uses in each Area of Concern within their political boundaries. A remedial action plan will identify specific measures neces- sary to control existing sources of pollution, abate environmental contamination already present and restore beneficial uses. © A public advisory committee (PAC) has been formed to help guide the process of restoring ~ Jackfish Bay, which is one of 42 areas of concern in the Great ' Lakes Basin. The objectives of the PAC Team are - to represent the range of community interests and con- cerns; - to provide a focal point for the views and positions of the public in the development of the Jackfish Bay Remedial Action Plan; - to assist the RAP team in implementing a public informa- tion program for the general pub- lic, in part by acting as a liaison between the PAC and its member organizations; and - to provide a basis for gener- ating community support for The Minor Soccer Program in Terrace Bay is going strong. A total of 115 children are registered and take to the highschool field every Monday to Thursday night. Above is some action between the Scorpions and Shamrocks. If you have a concern or would like more information please contact one of the follow- Housekeepers can make things a mess By Mary Hubelit Get as sick as you like any other day of the week, and you have a host of skilled people looking worried, cheerful or blank at you. But come Friday your aches and pains are put on hold. The tender and long-suffer- ing nurses will return: you on Monday to the jurisdiction of "The Doctor" complete with your unrelieved achés and pains. Try to remember which are the R.N.s and which are R.N.A.s - you probably won't be able to read their labels during their brief stop at your bedside, especially if your glasses are on the table. Your naturally sweet disposi- tion will make the day a little more pleasant for the R.N.A., but immediate acquiescence is what make the R.N. tick. And the housekeeping staff! Take one out to lunch, buy her a rose, buy her a fur jacket - anything! But don't get in her way. In some hospitals patients' health has been set back three days by the cleaning lady shoving the bed around to mop under it. Slippers waiting faithfully beside your bed have been found under someone else's bed. I left my purse on the floor one day for a few minutes and in came the lady with the mop. She practiced a few hockey, broom- ball and lacrosse moves with my purse before I could rescue it. It took a ten-minute apology to soothe her ruffled feathers. _ After that I dozed. off for a while. When I wakened, the other lady, the duster, had been in. My glasses, clock and Walkman radio were all packed in the far corner of the table behind my bouquets - I couldn't reach a thing! So these are the people you will see most often. The ones you don't see, the cook and her helpers, I cannot of course dis- cuss. The presentation and enjoy- ment of food is. such a personal matter! The obvious solution is to stay out of hospitals. We all know the health rules - wonder why we don't want to follow: them? People are funny, eh?
