Council received information passed on from the Terrace Bay Police from Debbie Hamelin. Hamelin is working with the Victims of Violence Resource Centre to bring about changes to the Young Offender's Act. Hamelin's two-year-old daughter, Chantelle, was murdered by her 14-year-old baby sitter. The young offender now faces a maximum three-year jail term. Hamelin has sent a petition to council, and this petition will be available for anyone to sign at the municipal office. (For the full story sce page 8). Council has decided to take part in the Aguasabon Chamber of Commerce Trade Show being held Sept. 15 and 16, 1989. The various studies that have been conducted, other activities of council, and coun- cillors will be on hand for the pub- lic. A by-law regulating the planting and removal of trees was passed by council. The by-law applies to trees growing on any highway or public lands within the Township of Terrace Bay. Such trees may not be removed, trimmed or destroyed without the prior written authoriza- tion of the Township Engineer. Any person convicted of breaching this by-law is liable for a fine of up to $2,000 per trec. The public is invited to attend the next council meeting to be held Monday, August 14.
