Reginald Belair, MP for Cochrane-Superior, has announced that 157 applications have been approved to date in Cochrane-Superior for funding under Challenge 89, a summer employment program for stu- dents. These approvals will create 259 jobs with federal wage subsi- dies amounting to $442,396. "I know how much these sum- mer jobs mean to all students in Cochrane-Superior," said Belair. "I believe this program provides an ideal way for students to obtain the type of experience that will hold them in good stead in the years to come." However, Belair is concerned with the fact that his riding will be receiving $131,000 less than last year, which amounts to approximately 70 jobs. "I can understand that the gov- ernment is trying to reduce the deficit, but it should not be at the expense of the students nor the parents who have to pay large sums of money to send their chil- dren to a college or university," stated Belair. Disabled Continued from page 4 image in light of things that have transpired in recent months? If the company could please define their meaning of the word disabled it may clarify to those thinking of applying just who may work for CP Rail. Perhaps if they are trying to promote good public relations they should take a more tactful and meaningful approach.
