It's a small shop located in the front of his house, but for a business like his, it's the only, and most efficient way to start. é "You need a population of about 30,000 to support a regular pet care, Only a bit of seed, some veg- etables, water and that's about it," he said. Phil also breeds many of his own birds - Love Birds and bud- gies - down in his basement. "The Cockateels are hard to breed. They have good offspring, but feed only one of their chicks." As a result, Phil has to feed the remaining chicks with a water dropper. Phil said budgies live an aver- age of 10 years, Cockateels about 20 to 25 years, and once bird he has, a Red Lord Amazon, can live to 100 years old.
