Page 2 TERRACE BAY/SCHREIBER NEWS Wednesday, February 8, 1989 Community profile By Dave Chmara This week's community profile focuses on on.e of Terrace Bay's newest residents, Paul Paradis. Paul is the manager of the Superior North Business Development Centre and started at this position January 19. ~ Originally from Thunder Bay, Paradis decided to apply for the position because, as he puts it, "I like working with small business people." Paradis worked at his own con- sulting firm in Thunder Bay for the past 11 years, as well as working for larger accounting and consult- ing firms during that time. He said he liked his work when he first started in Thunder Bay because he was dealing with small- er businesses at the time. But as time passed, he was assigned to audit larger firms. "You go in and work at a place for two months doing an audit but don't get to know anybody," he said. He added that going over count- less figures and endless piles of paper for that amount of time was not as rewarding as dealing with small business people face to face. There's something to do every night. But when you're older and have a family it's so expensive." He also said the thought of driving for two hours just to get to work every- day does not appeal to him. Paradis is married and 'has two children, a boy and a girl aged eight and five respectively. He and his wife didn't want to disrupt their children's school year so they will join him here in Terrace Bay after the school year ends. He said his son likes the A & W here and all the facilities surround- ing it. So far, Paradis finds Terrace Bay .and Schreiber to be, "clean, neat towns. I find all the people to be really friendly." Paradis said the town has a lot to offer in terms of recreation facili- ties. He is currently in the process of looking for a home to move into permanently. Currently, he is spending three days a week in Thunder Bay and W i i The regular U.C.W. meeting was held February 1st with Ruth | Hiller presiding. As for the -- Business Development Centre, Paradis said, "we have an open door policy. We're here to help people with loans and consulting and don't charge for the cofsulting services." He added the Business Development Centre is there to help people in planning a small business and if they can't help then they will put people in touch with those government departments or services that can. Paul said he and his wife are both involved in the community, with the Canadian Cancer Society and other such organizations. He mentioned his wife was responsible for starting a neighbor- hood watch program in his neigh- borhood in Thunder Bay. He did say they both plan to continue to be involved in the local community here- Welcome to town Paul.
