» "Page'2; News, Wednesday, August '10,1988 Helene is herself the target of a little bite By Helene Ballard Hello Folks! No doubt you have all found our weather a bit "too hot," but I guess we will get over it in time. In spite of the heat, some of our residents took a bus ride to Jackfish to visit our friends the Millers where they were well received. They all enjoyed a very nice sum- mer afternoon. Our thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Miller for their kindness. Our activities coordinator likes to take the residents out as much as possible while the weather is nice because it's a long, cold winter when we can't go out. So, on Tuesday it was a trip to Schreiber to do some shopping in spite of the rain. As we like to "spread our charm around," on Wednesday we went shopping in Terrace Bay. It seems we always need some 'little thing' so. we take advantage of our bus and go out all we can. ' We are enjoying new potatoes and other veggies from our garden, and they sure taste good. I guess we are better off here weath- erwise than many other places. I am told it's due to our big Lake Superior. By the time bad storms reach here from other places, they turn elsewhere; must have some- thing to do with the tides. With all the heat and some of our staff on holidays, news is scarce, but things will perk up. At this time, I would like to write about a phone call I received the other day. The caller -- a Terrace. It also allows those with a green thumb to "lady?" -- would not give me her name. She said: "That's not impor- tant. I just want to tell you that not all of us enjoy your Silly jokes at the end of your column." I did not give her an answer or a chance to say more. I hung up with a bit more force than I usually do. But I'll say this: Who ever you are, you are in the minority because I have been writing this column for over four years and you are the first person who has told me this. So "lady?," unless my editor tells me different, I'll keep putting jokes in my. column. Now for my Wee Joke: The Sunday School teacher was describing how Lot's wife looked back and turned into a pillar of salt at which time littie Jimmy inter- rupted. "My mother looked back once while she was driving our car," he announced triumphantly, "and she turned into a telephone pole!" Until next time, "cool your jets.' So long.
