President Shirley Mikus expressed DAG's disappointment at receiving no reply to letters writ- ten to the Chamber of Commerce, the Moose Lodge and the Lions Club requesting permission to send a speaker to one of their meetings. DAG would like to compliment the Municipalities of Schreiber and Terrace Bay for their efforts in pro- viding yard cleanup for the elderly and disabled. Our compliments also go out to The News for the photo in the paper showing the misuse of the handicap parking space. A letter of thanks will be sent to the Recreation Director and Staff for their consideration and help when we hold events in their facilities. The week of May 29 to June 4, 1988 has been proclaimed National Access Awareness Week and some time was spent dis- cussing ways to encourage our communities to work toward becoming accessible to everyone. Mr. Roberts' "Man in Society" class has completed an accessibility survey of six Schreiber businesses. The students report they enjoyed doing the survey and learned a lot about problems facing the handi- capped and elderly. They hope to do a survey in Terrace Bay before the end of the school year. DAG will again be giving bal- loons to children on Parade Day and will ask permission from the Township to_set up in front of the Municipal Building. A committee was set up to handle blowing up and distributing the balloons. The time for our annual member- ship has been changed to avoid con- flicting with other organizations. Memberships will be on sale at the Fall Fair in September. The May meeting will be our annual meeting with the election of officers. It was decided to phone everyone who holds a membership card to see if they are interested in serving on the executive. If you have not been called and you would like to become involved with our group in some way, our meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Hospital Lounge. We are pleased to have Colleen Kenney as guest speaker, a Family Worker with the Child Development Program. Colleen explained some of the work done under the program and showed a short film with some local "stars". This proved very interesting and informative. After the film the meeting was adjourned and coffee was served. "POLICE AUCTION" The Terrace Bay Police Force is holding an Auction on May 25th, 1988 at 7 p.m. at the Police Station.
