Page 10, News, Wednesday, May 4, 1988 Thunder Bay to host competitors in Senior Games Plans for the Fourth Annual Northwest Senior Games are well underway. The event will take place in Thunder Bay on June 13, 14, 15. The Northwest Senior Games are open to anyone 55 years of age or older. The purpose of the Games is to promote friendly competition, fellowship and social interaction. The events being offered this year are Carpet Bowling, a Baseball Throw, Swimming, Five- Pin Bowling, Bridge, Cribbage, Darts, Horseshoes, Walking, Golf, and Euchre. There are also three social events: a wine and cheese Social, sponsored by the Metro Lions Club of Thunder Bay; a Dinner and Dance; and an Awards Ceremony Luncheon. The Northwest Senior Games are associated with the Ontario Senior Games. Our regional district is District #1, which includes from Upsala to Marathon and Manitou- wadge, and also encompasses Nakina and Armstrong. With this being a Provincial year, winners from this district will proceed to Brampton in August for the Ontario Senior Games to com- pete at a provincial level. Registration for the Northwest Senior games will take place May 24 to June 3. Anyone interested can register at either the Herb Carrol Centre 55 Plus, 1100 Lincoln Street, or at the Port Arthur Centre 55 Plus, 230 Park Avenue (keskus lower level) during this period. It is anticipated that there will be 300 participants at the local Games from Thunder Bay and the sur- rounding region. The three days of events and activities promise to be an enjoyable time for all involved. The District Co-ordinator for the 1988 Northwest Senior Games is Susan Oldale. Over $6500 in pledges Students successful in raising money for heart foundation By Warren Morrill Jump Rope for Heart is a unique program which promotes physical education and cardiovascular health, while raising funds for the Ontario Heart Foundation. The fund raising part of Jump Rope for Heart consists of a two-hour Jump Event. Students skip in teams with members of each team taking turns in the event. Each member secures pledges for the time skipped by their team. To start off our program this year, we were fortunate to have the _ Thunder Beats. They are a Jump rope demonstration team from Thunder Bay who visited our schools and showed the students many skipping tricks, while Kelly Rennette and Crystal encourage all to participate. The Thunder Beats have travelled to various locations in Canada and the United States to compete in Jump events. Our Jump event was held April 13. Approximately 90 students from Grades 1 to 8 participated. This year Terrace Bay Public School raised $3894.75. Schreiber Public School held its Jump event on April 14. The stu- dents raised $2639.50. Mrs. Burton's Grade 3 class raised $1297.95. ; The top team was the Skipper Kids. Together, Harry Tympko, Jason Imbeault, Curtis Hart, Dallas McLeod, and Brad Semple raised $403.00. The top fund raisers were Chi Renaud, Harry Tympko, Jason Imbeault, Gator Nemshon, and Boe Tychoniak. To become a voting member of the Corporation, persons must purchase an annual membership ($ 5.00) or a life membership ($100.00 in any given year) 30 days prior to the date of the Annual Meeting.
