The Northwestern Ontario Sports Advisory Council (NWOR- SAC) would like to announce the addition of Steve Kosowick, Terry Scott and Ron Larivee to the Board of Directors and Julie Kyle as th Regional Sport Project Officer. Steve Kosowick is chairman of the Fort Frances Recreation Committee and a board member of the Ontario Municipal Recreation Association. Steve is also very active in many sport disciplines, especially in curling where he is a participant as well as the vice-president of the Fort Frances curling club. Terry Scott is a Supervisor of Community Recreation with the City Of Thunder Bay and has direct responsibilities for the devel- opment of sport and sport organiza- tions in thunder Bay. Terry was instrumental; in initiating the devel- opment of the Northwestern Senior Games and has been involved in many capacities with different youth sports throughout Ontario. Ron Larivee is the Recreation Coordinator with the Schreiber Parks and Recreation department. He has been involved in hockey, slow pitch, fastball and broomball in the capacities of both participant and official. His professional involvement in sports administra- tion in the Northwest will be of assistance to the council for the development of sport in the region. Julie Kyle is a recent graduate of the Physical Education program at Lakehead University. She is actively involved as a coach and official in gymnastics at a regional and provincial level. Page 9, News, Wedriesday, April 6, 1988 Schreiber rep on sport advisory board As the Regional Sport Project Officer, it will be her role to fulfill the council's goals of enhancing and promoting sport development in Northwestern Ontario. The council attempts to accom- plish this goal through the adminis- tration of various programs such as National Coaching Certification Program, the Training Institute for Sport Administrators and the Regional Athlete Assistance Program. The council also offers consulta- tive services to regional and com- munity sport groups; acts as an advocate to deal with provincial and federal sport governing bodies; and advises the Ministry of Tourism and recreation on sport- related issues both in a proactive and reactive manner. Conference to address rehabilitation issues On May 13, 14, and 15, the Thunder Bay and District Injured Workers' Support Group will be hosting a provincial conference on The Rehabilitation of the Injur Worker. ~ The Conference will take place at the Ramada Inn/Prince Arthur Hotel. Wolfgang Zimmerman from the Disabled Forestry Workers of British Columbia will be showing the film which they produced. It is entitled "Every Twelve Seconds," and it deals with safety in the work place as well as the rehabilitation process from the experiences of five injured work- ers. Every twelve seconds, some- one in Canada is injured on the job. Beddard Memorial Bonspiel a success again this year The Jim Beddard Memorial Bonspiel was a great success again this year. 16 mixed teams compet- ed for trophies and prizes. The team of George Caron, Jenny Robson, Richard Flanagan and Eleanor Pollard won the Bonspiel after a close final game against Jane Santerre, Gene Woods, Aldea Churney and Ron Brend. In fact, the game was tied, and because of time the skips drew to the button to decide the winner. Also making the semi-finals were the following teams: Lloyd Dejonghe, Anne Regis, paul Wenzel and Tammy Gosselin; and Howie Cooke, Raoul Fournier, Emil Hamann and Mary Clare Papineau. The doorprize was won by Frank Hurley. Mary Clare Kennedy was voted Best Bonspieler, with Jane Santerre a close second. A Special thanks to all those who helped make this Bonspiel a success -- especially The Royal Canadian Legion, and Lil and Evelyn from the Ladies Auxiliary. See you all next year! " .
