The fee for resident black bear hunters will increase to $17:50 from $10, to match the licence fee for deer hunting in Ontario. Non-resident hunters will pay $80, a $55 increase. The new rate corresponds more closely to fees charged for non-resident black bear licences in other North American jurisdic- tions. "Black bears are an important big game species in Ontario," Kerrio said. "The increased fee is for the_ 1988 hunting season, along with changes to the hunting regulations introduced last spring, are part of the min- istry's efforts to bring the black bear program into line with its deer and moose pro- gram." Crimestoppers Crime of the week #10 Damage to CPR Property- Nipigon During the past year, a number of separate incidents of damage have occurred to the Canadian Pacific Railway in Nipigon. On seven (7) different occasions, signal lines have been tampered with by the cutting of wires which control the signals to the master control in Schreiber. The actions of these persons are extremely dangerous, as the sig- nals used by the trains to indicate who has the right-of-way become inoperable. Investigation reveals the wires were cut, and in some cases, it was necessary to climb the poles along the tracks to cause this damage. In some instances, the main power lines were also cut, resulting in the lights becoming inoperable. This action is also very dangerous to the person or persons respon- sible, as these lines carry 575 volts of electricity. This damage has been done to various locations in and near the town of Nipigon. The actual damage in these occurrences amounts to several thousand dollars, but the greatest concern is safety. ; Conceivably trains could have collided or may have caused derail- ments because of the non-functioning signals. Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000, this week, for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible for this crime. Call Crimestoppers at 623-TIPS, that's 623-8477, or long distance, toll- free, at 1-800-465-6844, if you have any information regarding this crime. "YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REVEAL YOUR IDENTITY" Crimestoppers also pays cash for information on any unsolved crimes. The Crimestopper reward fund is raised through tax- deductible donations from citizens and businesses. Cheques may be sent to Thunder Bay Crimestoppers Inc., 425%.
