By Ken Lusk The News -- The Terrace Bay Police Force hosted the 1987 Annual Crime Prevention Seminar, and local recipients of awards from the Solicitor General of Canada, Joan Smith, are shown at left and right. The crime prevention seminar was a gala event with guests from across the country. It included a presentation by the Solicitor General, Joan Smith. The morning session of the seminar, Part 1, had Inspector John Kopinak of the Niagara Regional Police Force discussing 'Sports and Drugs Don't mix', to invited guests and the graduating VIP classes of Schreiber and Terrace Bay. "It was a good presentation and well-received," said Terrace Bay Police Chief Donald Kidder. The 'Sports and Drugs Don't Mix' program is one Kopinak developed for the Niagara Regional Police, Force and it has been adopted and endorsed by the Solicitor General of Canada. This program is available to all sport coaches. Kopinak saw a need for this program because he has seen ath- letes who have fallen by the way- side due to drugs- athletes who have had great potential. A luncheon was held at St. Martin of Tours Church prepared by the Catholic Women's League. Joan Smith was there and gave a 15-minute speech on crime pre- vention. Smith highly praised all people who participate in crime preven- lion programs. It was during the luncheon that Smith presented the awards to people who have contributed sig- nificantly in this area. "Crimestoppers is one of the great crime prevention programs available," said Terrace Bay Police Chief Kidder. A newspaper is only as good as its readers! That's why we're the best! VLE.
