By Winnie Campbell News correspondent Ordination Service- St. John Anglican Church- Schreiber, Ont.- A most-impressive Ordination Service celebrating the 100th Anniversary of St. John Anglican Church in Schreiber, Ontario, took . place:-. on Wednesday evening, December 16, 1987, when Mr. Robert James Elkin was officially ordained into the Anglican Priesthood by the Right Reverend Leslie EE. Peterson, Bishop of Algoma, from Sault Ste. Marie. The wives of the visiting cler- gy were entertained at a tea in the United Church Hall during the afternoon, while the ladies of the A.C.W. were preparing a dinner for the visiting clergy, their wives, and members of the church board, with their wives and husbands, The sermon was preached by the Rev. Canon Mark Conliffe of Thunder Bay. Communion was celebrated by Bishop Peterson, with Rev. Canon Conliffe and Rev. Bob Elkin assisting. Organist for the occasion was Mrs. Dorothy Lengyel, who also accompanied the soloist, Anita Netherton, and the combined choirs of the Anglican Church and several members of the Holy Angel choir. In charge of the music was Joann LeBlanc. 14 visiting clergy attended the service and were joined in the processional by most of the local clergy from Schreiber and Terrace Bay, namely: Pastors Mr. Ernie Hunt of St. Andrew United Church, Schreiber; Father Jan Rademaker, Holy Angels. Church, Schreiber; Mr. J. Johnson, Baptist Church, Schreiber; Father B. Campbell, St. Martin Church, Terrace Bay; Rev. Ed Richmond, Marathon Anglican Church. Also attending was our former Minister, the Rev. Tim Delaney, now in Sault Ste. Maric. Among the highlights for the Elkin family was the arrival from England of Rev. Bob's Mother, Mrs. Lily Brace. Members of the Schreiber Church Board present at the din- ner were: Mrs. Flora Bryson, rec- tor's warden and Jack Bryson; Mr. Duncan McKie, people's warden and Mrs. McKie; Treasurer Mrs. Colleen Glad and Norman Glad; Mr. Geoffrey Birch and Mrs. Birch; Mrs. Shirley Hamilton and Mr. Dave Hamilton; Mrs. Joann LeBlanc and Mr. LeBlanc; Mrs. Judy McGaughey and Mr. McGaughey. Members of the A.C.W. preparing and serving the dinner were: Flora Bryson, Hazel Bailey, Alice Sparks, Helen Jartus and Jean Stitt. A Several gifts, both from the congregation of St. John and other personal gifts, were present- ed to Rev. Bob and Connie Elkin. Following the service, a coffee hour was enjoyed by a large crowd in the parish hall assisted by all the A.C.W. members. Many compliments have been -- expressed by all those attending on how much they enjoyed the service and the fellowship by the whole community. The Holy Angels' C.W.L. had a busy December. The regular monthly meeting was held with guest speaker, Donna Mikeluk. She spoke about women's craft guilds in third world countries and she had several beautiful items for display and for sale. The annual Christmas. party followed the meeting. There was a special visitor from the far north and gifts were distributed to all. Prizes given all were hand- made Christmas crafts. Everyone had an enjoyable evening. On Wednesday, December 9, ladies carolled to the senior citi- zens attending the Chimo Christmas party. Candy cane reindeer were pre- sented to each person. Several ladies also carolled to shut-ins on Sunday, December 20, and boxes of chocolates were given out. The draw for the Barbie Doll and outfits, which were donated by Alice McCouan, was held on Dec. 19. The winner was Janey Pellegrino. Visiting Mrs. Huard from Smiths Falls were Yvonne and Brian Hewson and Monica and Erin; also, Albert Huard with Nicole and Eric from Mississauga; and visiting Marg . Tiboni, her sister Celine Caron from Owen Sound; also Jo Ann and Reg McCullough from Hamilton visiting Mom Mary Sparks; and visitors at Alice and Jimmy Clavelle's were Mrs. Axelton from Edmonton; also Neil Valentino from Kenora visit- ing mom, Our deepest sympathy to the Burtons on the passing of Mr. Burton; he was a police officer here in Schreiber for many years. Get well to Fred Harness; also Mrs. Isabel Borutski. Richard Raindon was the win- ner of the Doggie at Spadoni's. For the first time in 11 years D'Arcy and Norah McGuire had all of their children home for Christmas; oldest daughter Bette and her children Kartin and Sebastian from -- Brisbane, Australia; Kathy and her daughter Addie from the south; only son Michael who lives at home; also were Nancy and husband Mike Lawrence and daughter Sarah from Toronto; Norah was. home from Guelph as was Kelly. She is attending the University - of Guelph. Connie came from Kingston where she is attending the Alma Mater,- Queen's University. Cecile, who spent last semester at Toual University, was home for Christmas before return- ing east, this time to Ottawa University. Also. present was Chris Gibbins and daughter Cara of Brisbane, Australia. Cora. and Katina and Sebastian experienced their first white Christmas and really enjoyed it. After their first romp in the snow they did have one question. "What holds the icicles up?" The Schreiber Baptist Church held their Christmas Turkey sup- per in the hall basement.
