Congratulations Mr. Rioux. 50 per cent transients Terrace Bay Police Chief Don Kidder attended the Nov. 9th council meeting to give council his statistics for 1987- up to Oct. 31. It is important to note that more than 50 per cent of the criminal charges laid are against transients- people who do not reside here but are only passing through. Commends officer Resident Rita McBride was at the Nov. 9th meeting and she told council she commends the officer who answered the call of her dog and another dog getting into a fight. He responded in a "professional manner," she said. McBride told council that although she is sorry she lost her dog in the incident, she is more concerned about her 20 month-old granddaugh- ter. "She still refers to it (the inci- dent)," she said. "It would have been unforgettable if it had been the child and not the dog (that was attacked)." McBride made the point that she is not on a personal vendetta. She said she is concerned that people could be harbouring a vicious dog and they don't know it- a lethal weapon, she noted. "This is a small town and people will not come forward," said McBride. "It will be too late when someone is attacked. "We did talk to (a kennel club) and they said it is likely that if the child and the dog had been alone, they would both be dead," McBride said. "These dogs are genetically bred to be fighters. "We can't wait until something happens to do something." McBride added that if incidents like this continue, maybe it will give concerned people some clout to deal with the situation. "Please educate the public, have them come forward," she urged coun- - cil. "No one wants to make waves." Christmas Greeting Ads are now available at The News.
