Open House The Schreiber Recreation Committee is presently planning an open house to welcome all new residents and to inform the gen- eral public of programs and our future development plans. If any groups or organizations wish to participate in the open house they should contact the recreation office at 824-2317. Winter Events Calendar The 1987-88 Winter Special Events Calendar is now ready. For your copy stop by the office anytime between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Community Calendar A new weekly column is presently being planned by the recreation department and the News staff (see this issue). It will assist in keeping the community better-informed of local happenings as well as helping our new residents in famil- iarizing themselves with the community. This column will include the name of the group contact per- son, date, place and time of their meetings as well as any special events they are planning. Any groups wishing to have their meetings or special events published on a regular basis should contact the recreation office at 824-2317. : Teen & Children's Aerobics- Debbie Tremblay, one of our aerobic instructors, is presently explaining the possibility of organizing a teen and children's aerobics program. If you are interested, contact Debbie at 824-2026 or the recreation office at 2317. Children's Christmas Crafts- This workshop will be held on Saturday, December 5 from 1-3 p.m. at the recreation com- plex. Donna Mikeluk will teach children ages six to 12 exciting Christmas Crafts. If you would like to offer suggestions for future programs or have a skill or hobby you would like share with others please contact the office and we will do our best to organize it. Olympic Torch Days Plans are well-underway for the arrival of the torch on Monday, January 11, The final schedule meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Any groups or individuals wishing to plan a special event for the celebration should attend this final meeting. Some of the events already planned are: children's play day, a contraption race; a moccasin dance, a bonfire and torch light parade, ice sculptures, an Olympic curling bonspiel, dances, suppers and much more. This is-our opportunity to get involved with the Olympics! - Let's make it a really big event. A reminder that all nominations for "Celebration '88" medals and certificates must be submitted to the office no later than Thursday, November 19 at 4:30 p.m. Teen Drop In Centre There is now a Teen Drop In Centre operating out of the games room and meeting room 3. If you are looking for a place to just meet your friends to sit and talk, come out to the recre- ation centre on Friday and Saturday nights from 7-11 p.m. Programs The recreation office is presently taking registrations for the following programs: Computer Course- an introduction into the micro-computer using the Tandy machine. The course will be held on Wednesday nights at the high school with Mr. Bill Houston doing the instruction; National Coaching Certification Program- the theory Level | and Il programs will be held in late November and January respectively. These theory levels are for coaches of any sport. Future Programs If you have a desire to participate in a specific program or wish to conduct a craft or hobby course, please contact the recreatoin office at 824-2317. Learn to Skate There is at present a morning session of Learn to Skate taking place in the arena. There are several more open- ings for registration available in the afternoon session. This pro- gram takes place from 2-3 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. If your child is between the ages of three:and five, here is the ideal opportunity for them to learn to skate. Give the recreation office a call at 3542. Programs The second session of the Fall exercise programs will be com- mencing in the near future. We still have openings in the follow- ing programs. Aerobics (with Gwen) Beginning on Nov. 16, and concluding on Dec. 17, this course will be a five-weck pro- gram. Call the recreation office for reservations in this fast-paced aerobics program. Fitness For Fun (with Lynn) There are several more open- ings in this morning program. Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-11 a.m. is the time Lynn puts here students through their paces. Mixed aero- bics for teens is available for those 13 years of-age and up. The program is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. Don't be shy guys; this exer- cise class will help loosen up and tone the muscles to assist you in your other athletic programs. Over-40 Hoppers (With Lorraine) We would like to inform the community that this program is open to males or females who wish to exercise at a more leisure- ly pace. It is a very low-impact exer- cise program mainly geared to Strengthen, tone and relax the body. The program is held at the public school on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Come one come all and join in the fun.
