Page 6, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, September 30, 1987 Birchwood report from Helene By Helene Ballard Time again for another effort on my part- I am still hoping to get that prize but so far my efforts have been without success; but never fear, I'll keep trying. We are all enjoying our beauti- ful fall weather; along with the fall colours painted by Mother Nature. I went to Thunder Bay last week to attend our Residents' Council Conference. It was a most-enjoyable meeting. The speaker was Dr. James Williams who is president of the Ontario Association of Residents' Councils, and who was a very good speaker. Our faithful friends came in on Tuesday to play cards with our residents who always enjoy these afternoons; so we thank you very much. Our garden is almost empty but we did enjoy fresh vegetables this past summer and we want to thank our gardeners Cliff Barker and Mrs. Barker for their work. I don't think they let any weeds grow there. So let's hope they can be in charge of the garden next summer. Some of our residents went to Schreiber to visit our friends at the Chimo Club where they are always well-received. It was a nice day for an outing. Francophone club starting here again Last May a group of Terrace Bay and Schreiber francophones got together to discuss the future of the: French "@lub; ~ "Les Compagnons". They all agreed that the club was in need and that something should be done to revive it. An executive committee was elected and this is our informal report. A request for support was made. to the. A.F.N.O.O. (Association des francophones du Nord-ouest de l'Ontario) and to the secretariat of state. The A.EN.O.O. replied to the club with an interest-free loan, and the secretariat with a grant. We would like to thank them both. A family supper was organized at the beach for the St. Jean- Baptiste on June 24, and we entered a float in the July Ist parade in Terrace Bay. Finally, we are now organizing a general meeting and evening to celebrate the new beginning of the club. The executive committee has many projects for you and your children (french show, crafts, etc.). We need your support, your ideas and your input. Are we heading in the right direction? Let us know by being present Friday, October 3, at 7 p.m., at the legion, for the meeting, fol- lowed by an evening of entertain- ment (music by "Les Troubadours du Norios"). We have to take advantage of nice days before the cold winter comes. : Guess I'll end this scribble for this week so I'll just say this; "Remember, Love makes the world go round, but so does a ride on a merry-go-round; and it's cheaper."
