Page 8, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, May 14, 1986 New ambulance received North Shore Ambulance Services, which serves both Schreiber and Terrace Bay, has a new, complete- ly equipped ambulance unit with an approximate value of up to. $60,000. However, its actual value in terms of what it will be able to do for the area is beyond price, acc- ording to the man who will be in charge of it in Terrace Bay, David Schinbein, the service's Ambulance Sup- ervisor. He explained that the new ambulance has all of the latest features, in- cluding room for two main stretchers, whereas many other such vehicles only have one stretcher, plus a bench. Schinbein noted that the 1985 Dodge ambulance is also fully climate controll- ed within, with a new radio system as well, which is worth about $11,000 all by - itself. The vehicle will be stat- ioned in Terrace Bay, while two other ambul- ances remain in Schreiber. It was received last month, and is now operational and in service. North Shore Ambulance Services also has an Em- ergency Support Unit, i NORTH SHORE CAB CO. ' 20% OFF All Fares : between : April 16th - May 31st, 1986 upon receipt of this voucher : ' HELP US CELEBRATE!!! which looks like an ambul- ance on the outside, but is actually a supply vehicle that also serves as a com- mand post at disaster sites. It alone has the capacity to handle up to 200 casualt- ies and covers all of the North Shore area, from Nipigon to Marathon and north to Manitouwadge, as well as the Schreiber and Terrace Bay area. Schinbein said that a re- cent recruiting campaign for part-time volunteers has been fairly successful, ex- cept for the Schreiber area, which requires a few more helpers. < He noted that all such volunteers are paid for their efforts once they are approved for duty, just be- fore a training session in which, if necessary, they are taught first aid, CPR, and how to drive the am- bulance, which also re- quires a Class F licence. In addition, any prospec- tive part-time ambulance officer must also have a Grade 12 or 13 Graduation Certificate, with no criminal record but with a good driving record. All applicants must also be at least 18 years of age and free from communicable diseases, with immuniza- ert apie Bs Decor-Nor tion against tetanus, dip- theria, and poliomyelitis. Schinbein has those and other qualifications himself, as he is a certified Emergency Medical Care Assistant, which is obtain- ed following a two year college course. Anyone interested in becoming a part-time ass- istant should contact him or the manager of the service, Pat Dingwall, at 824-2007 or 825-3746. Votes totalled By Tonya Zborowski On Wednesday, April 30, the Lake Superior High School graduating class once again voted on the issue regarding the date for the prom dance: Graduates voted for or against holding the dance on May 16 or June 24. The results of the vote taken were as follows: 22 for May 16, and 29 for June 24. Thus, the traditional graduation dance will be held on the evening of June 24 following the supper and ceremonies. In order to accomodate for the students who cannot attend the dance on June 24, we will also be holding a Spring Prom Dance for the whole student body which will be held on the evening of May 16. Despite the problems and arguments between the graduating students, an agreement has finally been reached that hopefully, is fair and convenient for everyone involved. New ambulance David Schinbein, the Ambulance Supervisor in Ter- race Bay, took delivery of a new ambulance last month. The vehicle, valued at up to $60,000, went into full operation recently. Schinbein and an exterior view of the ambulance are in the above photograph, while the picture below shows Schinbein and the two main stretchers within. When not in use, the ambulan- ce is stored in a garage at the McCausland Hospital.
