Property settlement sought for Schreiber Fire Hall During a Property meeting held by the Schreiber Township Council on January 16th, discussion was given to the possible lo- cation of the proposed new Fire Hall for Schreiber. Chief Doig, who was present at this special meeting pointed out that a request for property was made by the Fire Dept. as early as 1970 and a review and recom- mendation of the propo- sed sites should be made public. As sug- gésted to Council one of the proposed sites was situated on the end of Winnipeg Street, anoth- er on the property adja- cent to the Town Hall, one on the existing building, as well as the property in the North Peary Street area. pe rite Depart- ment Advisory Com- mittee reviewed the properties suggested and felt that they were not suitable for the foll- owing reasons given: The Winnipeg St. lot is poorly located, away from the main built-up areas and is located at the bottom of a hill, which is less than ideal for winter operation, as well as being too small. The property adja- cent to the Town Hall is appealing but the loca- tion of the Fire Hall on the property is limited because of the two 10" water lines running down the centre of the property. The existing loca- tion is very poorly lo- cated and the proper- ty is much too small. Ac- cess is also a problem especially when a func- tion is being held in the Town Hall. The Peary Street property is not centrally located and is not yet defined. The delay in response time to other parts of the Township is considerable.
