The Choirs performed on several occasions and were thoroughly en- joyed by both patients and staff alike. Our chronic patients were invited to partici- pate in several of the Birchwood Terrace acti- vities. With the help of families and staff, they were bundled up and whisked off to a Christ- mas luncheon there and returned several hours later, exhausted but happy. When Christmas Day finally arrived, all of our patients were treated to four feature-length mo- vies and a turkey dinner that was second to none. Christmas also pro- vided The McCausland Staff with the perfect excuse to put aside their Schreiber Seribbles pens and papers, stethoscopes and thermometers, dust mops and test tubes and relax in the spirit of the season. The first gather- ing was the annual din- ner and dance, famous for its gastronomic de- lights and frivolous fol- lies. After an appropri- ate recovery period, the staff gathered in the cafeteria for a wine and cheese party provided by the Board of Govern- ors. At this time, Mrs. Debra McGrath, rep- resenting the Ontario Nurses Association Lo- cal 144, presented Board Chairperson Christine Handy with a donation of toys for the Children's ward. "The wine was plentiful, the food ex- cellent, and it soon be-° came quite evident that indeed it was the sea- son to be jolly ... When what to our wondering eyes should appear but Santa Claus in his four- wheel drive. He gra- ciously took time from his busy schedule to participate in our annual gift exchange and en- sure that everyone went away happy. All in all, we at The McCausland Hospital enjoyed a wonderful holiday season. At the risk of jeopardizing our livelihoods, we wish you health, happiness and prosperty in 1984. St. Andrew's by WINNIE CAMPBELL St. Andrew's United Church Women held their first meeting of the year on January 4th. They first went out for a Chinese food dinner, re- turning to the church for the meeting with Mrs. Margy Smith presid- ing. Leny John led in devotions. The annual financial report was given by Treasurer Gwen Hadley, and other convenors also gave their reports. Myrtle Gordon gave the Card Secretary report. The Annual Christmas Bazaar was considered to be a financial --suc- cess. D'Arcy on behalf of the Official 'Board and the congre- gation, presented Mr. and Mrs. Bongard with a gift; and Dorothy Lengyel, on behalf of the Choir, presented Gwen Bongard with a gift on behalf of her services as the Choir Leader. We wish them good luck and good health in their new surroundings. We would like to wish the new minister of the Anglican Church, the Rev. Bill LeGrand and his wife Ann Marie wel- come. RR oss hort Notes The Ravens Entertain ! by ANNE TODESCO Well the battle is on; that is, the ravens ver- sus the dogs. Each day, the ravens are right on time when I throw out the table scraps. Some- how the canine popula- tion of the village sense that the birds are beat- ing them to the punch and hurry to get their share of the treats. Now the fun starts. The dogs make a mad dash to grab a tid-bit, but the ravens beat them off with the flapping of their wings and stab at them _ with their powerful beaks. Then I come into the picture with my cam- era. Do you think that the contestants would let me snap a picture - no way. Off they go, leaving a frustrated camera-woman waving her camera at them.
