Sunday, December 25th to Tuesday, December 27 - CLOSED Wednesday, December 28 to Friday, December CBO RADIO celebrates 10th Anniversary Ten years ago, CBQ brought a new dimen- sion in radio to North- western Ontario with thorough news and pub- lic affairs reporting, and programmes which re- flected the history, life- styles and people of the area. Before December 17th, 1983, residents of Thunder Bay and region had only limited ac- cess to CBC Radio pro- grammes through the privately owned sta- tion CFPA (later to be- come CJLB) which was a CBC affiliate. When the CBC acquired the trans- mitter and facilities of another private sta- tion, CJLX which had closed its doors earlier that year, Doug Ward and the distinct sound of CBQ Radio was born. Several of these people had previously worked with private stations in Thunder Bay. Some new faces were added and within a few months, CBQ was serving not only the Thunder Bay transmitter, but also a string of twelve low power relay transmit- ters in small. regional communities.
