Legion bazaar a success A large number of people turned out for the Annual Bazaar and Tea, sponsored by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #223 which was held on Saturday, November the Sth. A wide variety of bazaar and _ novelty itéms were on sale to the waiting public and along with this the Ladies also offered numerous raf- fles plus several games of Bingo. Winners of the raffles were: Doris Marcella -(Smurf cake donat- ed by Faye Figlio- meni); Linda Robinson - (Coffee maker donated by Costa's Foodmarket which was the Door Prize); Doris Walton - Tablecloth crocheted by Ann Dod; Del Scott (Baby Blanket made by Lil Bellineau); and Joan Woods - (Christmas Stocking and candy canes). A wide variety of crafts ranging from macrame to ceramics were available. The knitting table and the bake table had an excellent quantity of items. A bingo later followed the tea and only a few people stayed to play. During the tea, Lorette Solly was presented with her 20 year pin; she was extremely surprised. The girls of the Terrace Bay Ringettes along with their leader Linda Falzetta, served at the tea. There were a number of draws and the winners are as follows: the Crochet Table Cloth - Doris Walton, the Baby Quilt - Del Scott, the Smurf Cake - Doris Marcella, the Christmas Stocking - Joan Woods. Library Leadership Workshop Rosemarie Thorpe, Chairperson of the Ter- race Bay Public Li- brary and Shona Patri- quin, were two of more than 200 public library trustees from across Ca- nada to attend the Workshop in Library Leadership ("WILL"),. on October 28th and 29th in Toronto. The two-day model workshop was planned and implemented by a committee of the On- tario Library Trustees' Association in co-oper- ation with the Ontario Library Association. Substantial funding as- sistance was provided by the Ministry of Citi- zenship and Culture through the Wintario Grant.Programme. As representatives of the Terrace Bay Pub- lic Library Board, Thorpe and Patriquin were selected as dele- gates to O.L.T.A. "'WILL" because it af- forded them an oppor- tunity to get subsidized training at trustee work shops, enabling them to pass this knowledge on to other trustees on their return. During O.L.T.A. "WILL" Thorpe and Patriquin heard speak- ers, and participated in workshops and_ small group idea exchanges and information ses- sions to enable library trustees to more respon- sibly and effectively carry out the responsi- bilities of their man- dated role. Public awareness, policy- making, planning and budgeting, and advocacy were pro- gramme topics. Trust- ees are encouraged to organize similar work- shops at the local and regional levels as a fol- low-up to their initial experience at the pro- vincial level. Representatives from other provinces were al- so in attendance. President of the Ladies "Circle Tour" guide book promotes tourism Once again the North of Superior Travel As- sociation is pleased to announce the tremen- dous success of the 1983 edition of the Lake Sup- erior Circle Tour Tra- vel Guide and that by all accounts, the 1984 edi- tion is looking bigger and better. Barb McEwen, Ex- ecutive Director, has re- ceived overwhelming support for the publi- cation which is essen- tially the resurrection of a tourist guide book which promoted travel around the lake during the 60's and 70's. Mc- Ewen explains the suc- cess of the Circle Tour Guide Book is in part that it has filled a great need for both tourists and area merchants alike, for interesting and informative tourism- related information. This compact book is assisting Circle Tour at- tractions and merchants to become involved in pursuing more tourist revenue rather than put- ting back waiting for the economic hard times to disappear. We hear over and over that this type of non-profit venture under the management of a Tourism Association is what is needed to help those involved become partners in the quest for potential tourist dol- lars rather than compe- titors. The 68 page travel guide will feature full colour covers and two colour, two column in- terior pages. A map of the Circle Tour with a list of the 30-35 major attractions will occupy the centre spread. Tour- ists who complete the entire trip will qualify to receive an "Admiral of Lake Superior' certi- ficate by having their travel guide stamped by advertisers in each state and province on the tour. Due to an increased demand, there will be a 25 per cent increase in distribution to a mini- mum of 125,000 copies printed by March 1984, for free distribution to major population cen- tres in the mid-west U.S.A., Ontario and Manitoba. Approxi- mately 40,000 of the books will be made available at tourist infor- mation centres on the circle tour highways. This is the only pub- lication distributed by Tourist Information Centres around the com- plete Circle Tour in as much as it covers On- tario, Minnesota, Wis- consin and Michigan.
