Dated the 12th of September, 1983 at Toronto. The Honourable Andrew S. Brandt Minister of the Environment 15th Floor 135 St. Clair Ave. West Toronto, Ontario M4V 1P5 Ministry of the Environment Ontario Hon. Andrew S. Brandt, Minister Gérard J.M. Raymond, Deputy Minister ior was carried out in the Schreiber area for a number of years through the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Nipigon and by various Pastors and congregations from the Thunder Bay area. Work in Marathon was done under the. auspices of the now defunct Luther- an congregation in Manitouwadge. With the leaving of the full time Pastor in Manitou- wadge and Rev. John Nelson from Nipigon, work was discontinued. In 1981, the Imman- uel Lutheran Church of Nipigon expressed the need for such a ser- vice again on the north shore and this was sup- ported by the Pastors of the Ontario Circuit of the Minnesota North District. The Rev. James Uh- rinak and Rev. Klein of Nipigon toured the- North Shore in the spring of 82 and upon their recommendation along with those of the Board of Directors of the Minnesota North Dist- rict, work on this be- gan, with Terrace Bay used as the base. Ser- vices began in Septe- mber of '82 at St. Mar- tin Roman Catholic Secondary School audi- torium by Rev. Klein and were later moved to the Chapel of Birchwood Terrace. In February of '82 the mission chose to be called the Holy Gos- pel Lutheran Mission. Because more and more people are re- quiring this type of ser- vice, it was then de- cided that this area needed a full time Vic- ar. On September 25th, Rev. Klein gave his final sermon at Birchwood Terrace and introduced Vicar Peters and his wife to the community. On October 18th, a Commissioning Service was held for Vicar Peters at the Holy Gos- pel Lutheran Mission in the Birchwood Chapel with over a dozen Luth- eran clergy and _ local clergy in attendance. Duane and Shirley have quickly settled into Terrace Bay, and look forward to meeting the community. They seem very impressed with the communities of both Schreiber and Terrace Bay and look forward to enjoying all the recrea- tional services that both towns have to offer. Duane enjoys hunt- ing, fishing (anything that involves the great outdoors) and also read- ing, while Shirley parti- cipates in a variety of hobbies ranging from downhill skiing to crafts and swimming. Shirley is a certified Lab Tech- nician and has worked in such places as the Hos- pital for Sick Children in Toronto and in Dublin, Ireland. We hope that your life in Terrace Bay will be a rewarding experience for the both of you ... Welcome!
