The Committee had to dis- cuss the following be- fore the decision was made: 1) Retaining what fa- cility would put least load on the compressor. 2) What surface is quick- est to install "Guess Who's 50" Happy Birthday 3) Can we run one sur- face with one 50 H.P. compressor. The decision was to retain the smaller sur- face and the surface which is the least diffi- cult to install, that one being the Curling Club. The Arena ice will be out for approximately 2 weeks. The Recreation Department will notify all user groups once the ice is usable. We apolo- gize for any inconveni- ence caused. by this problem. Paper Tole (Beginner and Advanced) A successful Paper Tole workshop for beginners was held re- cently. Those who took this first course and would like to advance their skills are encour- aged to submit their names for the next course. Beginners are also welcome, as 2 sepa- rate projects will be if you are ° offered during this 1 day workshop. Paper Tole is a beautiful art where you create a picture with a 3 dimensional effect, by cutting and layering identical prints. Art from the Oven Here is an exciting and inexpensive way to create your own decora- tions for home, holidays and gift-giving. Every- thing you need to mold and shape your own works of art are right there in your own kit- chen! Bread dough sculpture is an age old art form and now has become imaginative and personalized. We will be sculpting figures, dressing them and ap- plying the finishing touches. This is a 5 hr. workshop and will most likely be held for 2 hours on a Friday evening and 3 hrs. on a Saturday. Sign up early as we have indication that this will be a very popular cour- se. Microwave II Our Microwave Cook- ing courses with Corry DeVries have been very popular, due to the in- crease of microwave ovens in the home. We hope to bring Corry back for another course next spring. Advanced tech- niques will be taught at this time but it is felt that beginners will also benefit from this work- shop. So all you ladies (and men) who hope to get a microwave oven this Christmas, let us know if you would like to take this short course continued on page 6 Haileybury Ground Control course In co-operation with the Mines Accident Pre- vention Association of Ontario, the Hailey- bury School of Mines is presenting their annual Ground Control Cour- se on November 22, 23 and 24th. The course this year, culminates with a visit to Kidd Creek Mines Ltd. for an overview of Ground Control methods on Fri- day, November 25th. Ground Control is a vital part of mine plan- ning, using rock mech- anics to eliminate ground falls and includ- ed in the course will be speakers from Denison Mines Ltd., Kidd Creek Mines, Inco and Fal- conbridge who will de- tail Ground Control measures at their loca- tions. An equipment demonstration on Wed- nesday evening will fe- ature industrial dis- plays of rock monitor- ing and various other Ground Control equip- ment. The course regis- trants will be 'joined by the entire second year Mining. Technology students for the Ground Control course. De- signed primarily for first line supervisors, it is open to registrants from various types of indust- ries.
