Safety Engineering meeting The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering is a non-profit association of safety professionals devoted to developing and improving the skills necessary to ensure a safe and healthy envir- onment in their places of employment. The next regular meeting of the Canadian Society of Safety Engi- neering, Northwestern Ontario Chapter, will be held Thursday, October 20th at 5:30 p.m. at the Prince Arthur Hotel. The guest speaker will be Mr. Gord Collinson, Occupational Health Branch, Ministry of La- bour. Mr. Collinson, who is an Industrial Hygienist, will outline the opera- tions of his department in the context of his own profession. Marathon Festival of Social Services Festival of Social Ser- vices will be held in Marathon at the Recre- ation Centre on Friday, October 28, 1983 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. There is no cost for this event and it is open to the Public. Arena closure The Schreiber Arena will be closed until early November 1983. This closure is due to unfor- seen difficulties encoun- tered with the arena ice plant. The Schreiber Re- creation Department apologizes for inconven- ience created by this unfortunate incident. We look forward to re- opening the arena, and of serving the Schreiber public. Your understan- ding is appreciated. Also note that the Recreation Department will be offering a FREE public skate session in early November. Stay tuned for more details. Report "No fires for September" by Deputy Fire Chief, Rolly MoQuin The Terrace Bay Fire Dept., is pleased to in- form the public that there has been no fires during the month of September. The Terrace Bay Fire Dept., held its regular drill for September. A successful foam demon- stration was conducted by Mr. Hugh Baxter, Sales representative and Mr. Rick Hanson, Reg- ional Branch Manager of Levitt-Safety Ltd. Also in attendance was. Mr. Gene Ross, Deputy Fire Chief of the Schreiber Fire Department. The Terrace Bay Fire Dept. is also pleased with the number of brick chimneys going up this fall, as opposed to the metal type. As the cold weather is slowly com- ing upon us, more and more people are start- ing to light their wood stoves. This is a remind- er to start cleaning your chimney again on a reg- ular basis.
