These awards are sponsored annually by the Ter- race Bay Horticultural Society and open to all residents of Terrace Bay excluding last year's six winners. These six 1982 winners were the pre- liminary judges this year with Mrs. Dorothy Dove, representative of the Horticultural Society of District 14, acting as final judge. Judging took place during August 'with scores totalled on points out of 100. The various areas in which residents received points included first impression of the property, lawn condi- tion, any unusual plants or flowers and _ their arrangements, placing of plants, landscaping, vegetable gardens, utili- zation of components and buildings on the property. These were broken up into two cate- gories, 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for "Homes over four years old" and the same for "Homes under four years old", total- ling six Award Winners. The 1983 Award win- ners are as_ follows: homes over four years old: Ist prize $100.00 Mr. and Mrs. E. Pers- son, 2nd prize $75.00 Mr. and Mrs. A. Chis- holm, 3rd prize $50.00 Mr. and Mrs. A. Cadieux. Homes under four years old: Ist prize $75.00 Mr. and Mrs. W. Bigelow, 2nd. prize $50.00 Mr. and Mrs. D. Stewart and 3rd prize' $25.00 Mr. and Mrs. J. Ziegler. The winners STOP for a moment. (Junior Citizens can be community wor- kers, lifesaving he- roes, those who rise above physical fimi tations, or just plain "good" all -- round young people aged 6 to 18) Ontario -- Com- munity Newspapers Association and CP Air community ser- vice project. Everyone is welcome to come out and partici- pate, become a member or an officer. Public meetings are held four or five times a year in the Committee Room or Multi-Purpose Room at the Recreation Center. Watch for the dates of these meetings in your paper! Your sup- port is needed so come on out. Some work done by members of the Ter- race Bay Horticultural Society include the hos- pital, the bank and park flowers. A second tree Rossport - was planted outside the town council office with a flower bed around the Terrace Bay cemetary as the latest project. Labour Day Regatta The village of Rossport played host to a Labour Day Regatta last Mon- day, September 5th. Six sailboats were entered in the regatta with the course set out to sail to Battle Island and back again. Various festivities were held after the regatta as well as an awards ceremony, which was hosted by Coleen Ken- ney. Prizes for the regat- ta were provided by the Windjammer Gift Shop of Rossport. The results of the race - are as follows: _ Ist place - Les Graham of Terrace Bay with his Albird 37 (Haumoana); 2nd place - David Knukson of Terrace Bay with his Express 20 (Esprit DuNord); 3rd place - Frank Hod- der of Schreiber with his Lightening (Wood duck); 4th place -Ned Basher of Rossport with his Her- reshoff Eagle (Baikal); 5th place to Dug Stefurak of Rossport with his Bluenose (Wolves' son); And 6th place went to Tom Beckett of Schreiber with his Siren. This was the Ist An- nual Rossport Labour Day Regatta and it is hoped that many more will follow.
