The Ministry of the Environment's aims and objectives clearly state that they intend '""..to develop an effective, comprehensive plan for the handling of waste in Ontario..."' The Blueprint, along with its 11 Appendices, is a comprehensive proposal which outlines the issues and points to solutions to be developed and incorporated in an overall, province-wide management program- me. Public participation is an important part of the blueprint process, leading to the final drafting of policies and legislation. The Ministry of the Environment wants the involvement of the public, municipalities, other agencies and industry. 'Public participation is essential to development of the Blueprint,"~ said Environment Minister Andy Brandt. "I want to hear from the public through presentations at the public meetings which my Ministry is holding all over Ontario. My staff will provide all assistance possible in helping organizations or individuals to present their ideas on the Blueprint either verbally or in written form. As part of my commitment to establishing a comprehensive program- me for waste management in Ontario, I assure the public that the ideas and concerns submitted will be given full consideration in our preparation of a final plan.'"' Ministry staff working on the Blueprint are meeting with interested groups and organizations to explain the details of the proposals and to discuss the issues and options. THREE: As responsible parties, we must be informed on the issues and take part in the decisions which must be made to resolve them; and FOUR: Our disposal practices must ensure that no waste ever becomes a threat to either our environment or well being. A better environment is everyone's concern. Waste Management is not simple and neither are the solutions. If all interested parties work together on the Blueprint for Waste Management, Ontario will have a comprehensive, product- ive and successful waste management program- me. The government won't accept anything less for the people of Ontario.
