community news Fun Day scheduled Tot Lot - Fun Day and Wind Up On Thursday, Aug- ust 25, there will be another "Fun Day" at the Arena, which will conclude a_ successful summer for the Tot Lot Program. This "Fun Day" will be for both age groups of Tot Lot. Activities will begin at 11:00 a.m. with a dog show - please bring your dog on a leash. He could win a small award in any of the different cate- gories. At 12:00 noon there will be a Barbecue lunch and many games - and activities will fol- low, until the end of the program at 3:30 p.m. Stained Glass (with Vi- vian Ludington) A 6 week session to teach you the beautiful art of stained glass will be offered this Fall. This is a perfect opportun- ity to create lovely, handmade Christmas decorations, or gifts for your family and friends. Various items can be made in the 6 week ses- sion, use your imagina- tion! Tentative dates are from Wednesday, Octo- ber S to Wednesday, No- vember 9. Call the Rec- reation Office if you would like to partici- pate! A highly suc- cessful Junior Open and Ladies Open were both well attended by Thun- der Bay Golfers. Also, a most successful golf cli- nic, sponsored by the Mens Club, under the direction of Thunder Bay Country Club Pro, Mark Shushak, with Juniors, Men and La- dies participating. Mark was pleased with the response and indicated a desire to return next season on a more fre- quent basis. He was very impressed with our driving range and our greens. Congratulations to Bill Stachiw for suc- cessfully defending his title at the "Bergstrom" in Geraldton and also to Paul Dashkewytch for adding Marathon's "Pete Amadeo Memo- rial" to his list of tour- nament victories. Terrace Bay Horticultural Society The Terrace Bay Hor- ticultural Society invites entries at the Fall Fair on September 11, 1983, for flower arrange- ments, garden-on-a- plate and general pro- duce grown in your gar- den. There will be no prizes for the garden produce/flowers, as this is mainly to show just what will grow in this area. Senior citizens are in- vited to enter flower ar- rangements,. This can be dried or fresh material or a combination and a gardening book will be presented as a prize. This is for the Birch- wood Terrace _ resi- dents. Children are invited to enter a "Garden-on-a- plate'. There will be two groups - Group (1) is for all children up to and including Grade 4, and Group (2) is for Grades 5 to 8 inclusive. These will be judged on the day and should be on the stall no later than 2:00 p.m. on the day of the Fall Fair. The judging for the Home Beautification Programme is under- way, so if you find that people are looking over your garden they are probably the prelimin- ary judges (last year's winners). Final judging will be done by Mrs. Dorothy Dove of Thun- der Bay, and will take place at the end of Aug- ust. Schreiber Ball Hockery Tournament On August 13, 14, 1983 at the Schreiber arena the Schreiber Parks and Recreation Department hosted an Invitational Ball Hockey Tournament. Two Manitouwadge and two Schreiber teams com- peted in a round robin tournament of gruelling fast paced action.
