We didn't know what they intended to talk about, but there were a couple of things on our part that we wanted to raise. Those things that did affect the town were brought back to the Council as soon as pos- sible, in two days, and they were fully discus- sed. This wasn't brought up then. The meeting was on Friday and the Council met on Monday."' Councillor Chapman said, "I wasn't aware that it wasn't a formal meeting." Chapman went on to re-iterate that she wanted all members of the Council to attend any future discussions. "T'want us to all feel involved, I don't want any of us to feel left out."' Reeve Speer said, "I want it made quite clear that I will discuss with anyone at anytime the best interests of this town. The decisions are made here at this Coun- cil table, not in private conversation. If I go to anyone's home and they choose to start talking to me about the town, I will talk to them. I have in the past and I intend to in the future. Reeves have always done this. Not only is it proper it is part of their duty, and there is nothing wrong about it." 'As far as feeling left out, I felt left out when I opened up my minutes and found that a finance committee meeting had turned into a Special Meeting and had hired an engineer without my knowledge. I raised the subject of engineering at the last Council meet- ing. You knew I was interested in it." Councillor Chapman said, "You weren't left out of that meeting." Speer replied, "Yes, I left that meeting early. If I had known that the _matter was going to be brought up I wouldn't have. What is important is that we all work together well. Family Unity Month Under other Commit- tee Reports, Councillor Bill Houston reported that he had attended the Children's Aid Society meeting in Thunder Bay. Councillor Joe Ken- nedy reported that, '"'We haven't too much in Public Works, Dave. We are all set to start the Spring Clean Up on May 9 to 13." Reeve Dave Speer said, "Senior Citizen's Week is coming up and we need to get the ball rolling. Would you agree to Chair it Joe."' Councillor Kennedy ag- reed to act as Chairman of Senior Citizen's Week. The Reeve asked if anything had been done about the purchase of a gift for the New Year's Baby. The Council had appointed Councillor Ol- lie Chapman to take care of the gift and make arrangements for the presentation. Council- lor Chapman said that the gift had not been purchased. She said that she was having diffi- culty in determining which baby was the New Year's baby. Reeve Speer said that it was the Council's traditional policy that the first baby born in McCausland Hospital was Terrace Bay's New Year's baby. Councillor Chapman was informed by the Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, April 20, 1983, page 11 Deputy Clerk that the hospital forwards the in- formation concerning births to the Municipal Office and that it would be available in the records. Reeve Speer went on to say, "I would like to issue another Proclama- tion. May is Family Unity Month and I would like to see us recognize this. I can't think of anything more important today.
