Rossport break and enters go to court Schreiber OPP have been carrying out an investigation of a series of break and enters in the Schreiber and Ross- port area. There have been about a dozen such incidents over the last eighteen months and the Lake Superior High School was buzzing with activity as it hosted the NSSSAA Basketball and Volleyball tournaments, on February 16th and 17th. The results of the NSSSAA Western Basketball Tournament were as follows: Senior Boys: 1. Nip-Rock Lakers 6 points 2. Geraldton - 4 points 3. Lake Superior Voyageurs - 2 points 4. Marathon - 0 points Junior Boys 1. Geraldton - 6 points 2. Lake Superior Voya- geurs - 4 points 3. Nip-Rock Lakers - 2 points 4. Marathon - 0 points The Junior Boys team travelled to Wawa on February 25th and 26th to compete in the NSSSAA finals. The Junior Boys gain- ed third place with one win and two losses. The results of the NSSSAA Girl's _ Volley- ball tournament were as investigations resulted in the laying of a num- ber of charges. Prosecution of those charges began last week in Provincial Offenses Court, Criminal Division in Schreiber. Five young men from follows: Senior Girls: 1. Marathon - 12 points 2. On March Sth, Tim Wilson, Guy Kodila, and Curtis Evoy travelled to Red Rock to participate in an invitational Bad- minton tournament. Curtis Evoy placed by Kelly McGuire | Rossport appeared in Court to answer to the charges. Dennis Good- child pled guilty to a charge of breaking and entering Andre Nicol's camp on Nicol Island off Rossport, stealing a chainsaw, stripping it of first in the singles, and Tim Wilson, and Guy Kodila placed first in doubles. The High School's Curling Team has also been busy in competi- tion. The team travelled to Nipigon on March 3rd and 4th. The Boys' team consisting of Chris Reid, Mario Vasilu, _ John Whitney, and Bryan Whitney placed sixth out of seven teams. The Girls' Team cons- isting of Kathryn Wal- ton, Tammy O'Neil, Jackie Speziale, and Sandra Barnett placed 4th out of four teams. Intramurals Intramurals have be- gun on both campuses. Many students are en- joying their lunch hours by playing -- sock- soccer. Special Events A Sadie Hawkin's Dance was held on the Terrace Bay Campus, on Friday, March 4th. parts and later burying the chassis of the chain- saw in the bush. Crown Prosecutor Leon Nicol said that it appeared that Goodchild had fallen into bad com- pany and had no pre- vious record. Nicol rec- ommended leniency. Judge Roy Mitchell agreed and found Good- child guilty but deferred sentencing for 14 months, ordered restitu- tion of the value of the chainsaw and 14 months probation. Charges against Dar- rin Gerow, Darcy Bain, Paul Auger, and Nar- cisse Bain were remand- ed until the next Court on April 6. On the Terrace Bay docket, Gordon Cald- well pled guilty to a charge of Impaired Driv- ing. He was fined $300 or 21 days. Aldofo Collini was remanded to April 6 on a charge of Impaired Driv- ing and refusing to take a breathalyser test. Cosimo Costa was charged under the Crim- inal Code with Theft under $200. He was given a conditional dis- charge and probation for seven months and order- ed to make restitution to the value of $169 and 16 hours Community Ser- vice Work. Richard Dale Evoy was found guilty of pos- session under section 31 of the Narcotics Control Act and fined $400 or 30 days. Evoy was also found guilty of Breach of Probation under section 661 of the Criminal Code and fined $300 or 30 days. James Malcolm Fer- gusson was found guilty of impaired driving and fined $400 or 21 days. John Brasfield was charged with possession of welding equipment stolen from Kimberly- Clark. Brasfield failed to appear and a Bench Warrant was issued for his arrest. Darcy Bain was re- manded on a charge of theft of money from the Recreation Centre games room.
