A further word about the Ontario Govern- ment's Underserviced Area Programme: The main objective of this programme is to assist Northern communities to attract two full-time permanent physicians. It provides locum tenens or '"'part-time" physicians on a short term basis only, to en- sure communities have adequate medical staff until permament physi- cians can be attracted. The Board of Gover- nors would like to re- assure the citizens it serves that the Board is aggressively searching for two permanent physicians; however, as most citizens can ap- preciate, the lead time in attracting physicians to the North can be con- siderable. With the ex- cellent health care fa- cilities at The McCaus- land Hospital, the Board feels it can achieve its objective by the Fall. Dr. Adey will continue his office practise and will have consultant privileges at the hospi- tal. What do consult- ant medical privileges mean? A member of the consultant staff may give gratuitous consult- ant services on the re- quest of active medical staff members, and pro- vide assistance in the operating room in the event of a surgical emer- gency. He/she has of course full access to all diagnostic services available at the hospital e.g. laboratory, x-ray, physiotherapy as any licensed physician does with or without privi- leges. He/she cannot directly admit pa- tients to the hospital nor '6 is required to be "on- call" for the Emergency Department. If a physician with consultant privileges and operating an office practice feels a patient | should be admitted to the hospital, that patient must be admitted by a physician with active medical staff privi- leges. This is a require- ment of The Public Hos- pital Act of Ontario and Hospital By-law. If you have any quest- ions regarding the hos- pital that you would like to have answered, please feel free to call Mr. Donald Ross, Exe- cutive Director, at 825- 3273. f help your Heart Fund = Now for groups of 3 or more BLUE CHIP BASIC s combines - e Dental & Drug Benefits Preferred Hospital Accommodation @ Major Medical Benefits e Direct claims payment 2 e Easy administration with one ID certificate and one monthly billing. 9:30 - 12:00 Dr. 12:30- 5:00 Dr. Thursday Adey Goldthorpe < Write for a brochure or call direct Al King : 34 Cumberland Street North Suite 707 Thunder Bay, Ontario P7A 4L3 (807) 345-5451 ONTARIO BLUE CROSS . 9:30 - 12:00 Dr. 12:30- 5:00 Dr. Goldthorpe Goldthorpe Friday
