Jl TERRACE BAY NEWS yOL. 22 NO, 7 FEBRUARY 14, 1979 25¢ PER COPY GIRL GUIDES AND BROWNIES CELEBRATE 25TH ANNIVERSARY On the evening of January 16th, the Lake Superior Public School Gym was the scene of a lovely candlelite ceremony, as the girl guides and brownies celebrated their 25th Anniver- sary, having become established in Terrace Bay in 1954. Rangers and cadets were also in attendance. Nine tenderfeet were enrolled as girl guides: Kathy Hansen, Monique Parise, Jody Bertin, Brigetta Samp, Kathy Sheppard, Tina Speer, Pam Menchenton, Pam Ducher and Joanne Blake. Twelve candles were lit. The first one represented the beginning of girl guides in England, 1909 and the second was for the beginning of guides in Canada in 1910. The third candle represented the establishment of guides and brownies in Terrace Bay in 1954 and the remaining nine candles were 1it as each enrolled guide made her promise. A sing-song followed, led by Pam Jones, music chairman. Perhaps the most significant Song was "Happy Birthday to You". A mother and daughter banquet will be held on February 18th at the Moose Hall. KINSMEN EXECUTIVE MEET IN SCHREIBER The Association of Kinsmen Clubs held its District Execu= tive Council Mid-Term Meeting in Schreiber on February 3rd, with representatives of District 2 in attendance from Thomp- ~ son, Brandon, Steinbach, Transcona, Killarney, Winnipeg, Morden, Dauphin, Thunder Bay, Pickle Lake, Schreiber and Terrace Bay. Qut-of-town members and wives arrived on Friday and were billeted with area Kinsmen. The meeting began at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Schreiber Town Hall. Schreiber councillor Norm Boon extended greetings on behalf of the Township of Schreiber. The seven Deputy Governors submitted reports on the activities of their var ious clubs throughout the year. continued page 2 TERRACE BAY TO HOST MIXED PLAYDOWNS The Terrace Bay Ladies Senior Ladies rink beat Marathon in a best of three Playdown and represented this Zone at the District level of competition in Thunder Bay. This rink is skipped by Ann Latour with Mary Hale vice, Maria Hermes second and Dene Clancy lead. They won three out of six gam- es but unfortunately this was not enough for them to go any further in competitive curling this year. The Penny Phillips rink of Thunder Bay won the Playdown and will represent the District this year. A group of ladies gave the Club a good cleaning recently in preparation for the "District Mixed Playdowns" to be held in the Terrace Bay Club February 15th to 18th. Jeannine and Heather will be signing up people for the kitchen so be Prepared to help when asked. The Bruce Sweet Rink from Manitouwadge will represent this Zone at the District Mix- ed Playdowns. The local rink of Barry Harper Marianne McDougall, Paul Gauthier and Brenda Harper was defeated by the Bruce Sweet rink in the Zone Playdowns held in Terrace Bay at the end of January. ~ The Rink skipped by Rhea Beaulieu with Jeannine Desrosiers; Vice, Stephanie Kingston Second and Daryl Davis Lead won the First Round of Thursday Night Curling.
