VOL, 22 No, 6 FEBRUARY 7, 1979 25¢ PER COPY BOARD MEETING THE LAKE SUPERIOR BOARD OF EDUCATION The Lake Superior Board of Education held its regular month -ly meeting on Monday, January 15 in the Marathon High School library. j : Minutes of the previous meeting held on December 11 were adopted. Acknowledged as received were the minutes of The French Language Advisory Committee Meeting held on December 4. Disbursements in the total amount of $372,556.52, and the purchase of Term Deposit Receipts in the amounts of $400,000. for November 1978, were approved. The Board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Susan Fummerton, secretary at Lake Superior High School in Schreiber; and mut- ually agreed to terminate the contracts of Mr. Ken Macleod, teacher at Lake Superior Public School, and Mrs. Ann Kallio, Family Studies teacher for Marathon. The appointment of Miss Madge Atkinson as Director's Sec- retary, effective 1979 01 01, was approved. The resignation of Mr. Graham DeVeber as Night School Prin ~cipal for Manitouwadge was withdrawn. Al Dawson, Chairman of the Transportation Committee, report -ed that the Committee had discussed the request from parents in Terrace Heights regarding transportation for their child- ren. The Committee recommended that the Board's present policy "not to provide transportation within town limits" be maintained. The Board approved the 1979 membership in the following Associations: Affiliation with The Ontario School Trustees! Council; Northern Ontario Public & Secondary School Trustees! Association; Ontario Separate School Trustees! Association; Ontario Educational Research Council; Ontario Association for Curriculum Development. : The write-off of uncollectible taxes for the Unorganized Townships of Rossport, Jackfish, and Heron Bay in the total amount of $144.37 was approved. CONTINUED PAGE 2 (=) (HOSPTALOTES Work on the new hospital is humming away smoothly. About sixty per cent of the inside walls are up and almost all the windows now are in. Some of the heavy machinery, such as the boilers and emergency generators, are being put in. Three new R.N.'s are coming on the casual nursing staff -- Cindy Waghorn, Mary Ellen Bouchie and Elaine Keenan. We welcome the girls. Linda Stewart attended a course last week at the Hospi tal for Sick Children in Toronto, on Nursing Care of the Sick New- born. Courses such as this are valuable in, bringing up-to-date information to all the nursing staff. It has been reported before how fortunate we in this area are in having caring and thoughtful people willing to give gen= erously of their time and talents to improving the lot of their neighbours. We would like to give our grateful thanks this week to Mrs. Beth Macadam, who produces for the pleasure of patients lovely tray favours on special days. Beth is a very gifted lady and has given that bit "extra" to someone who is 111 appreciates.
