According to previous regulation, channel 9 could be used for both emergency and general calls. During the past year, GRS users and organizations have asked that channel 9 be used for emergency communications only. As a result, the Department published in the Canada Gazette Part II, Vol. 112, No. 23 an amendment to the General Radio Regulations, Part IV. : Because of the change, another channel will have to be. used as a calling channel. The Department published 2 Notice in Nov- ember 18 Canada Gazette asking for comments on the need for or the desirability of designating channel 11 as the new calling channel.
