JALIARY 10, 1979 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 10 SCHREIBER PARKS & - RECREATION COMMITTEE CREATION COMPLEX UPDATE: On January 8, 1979 several ladies were back on the streets to do more canvassing for funds from the public sector. A bottle drive was held on Saturday, January 6th and was very successful. Final totals are not in at this writing and will be reported next week. A group of youmg adults are holding a folk and contemporary blues concert at the Public School Gym on Sunday, January 14, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. All funds after expenses will go to the complex. Friday, January 26 a dance will be held at the Schreiber High School gymnasium with all funds for the complex. Please see the advertisement for further data. There are many more events in the thought and development stages, more as details are available. Again we need your assistance with programs or for you and your group to. run an event, just allow us to know to avoid dup- lication and confusion. December 15, Jack Stokes, M.P.P. made a very valuable and unexpected presentation to Reeve Harold Fischer. 1t was a cheque for $314,847.76 from Wintario as our first installment on the new complex. The complex at the Terrace Bay mill site is signed, sealed as of December 28, 1978. Reeve Fischer and Clerk-Treasurer Aurel Gauthier presented the fipal payment to Kimberly Clark on that day. Plans of the new arena and complex can be seen in the window of the Schreiber Hotel and the main office of the Town Hall. Again we ask that those that have made pledges (not payroll) please keep the funds coming. Since the announcement that approval had been received a lot of money has come in at the town office, Personal $52,312.63; Payroll $11,793.00; Bingos $2,677.30. Total cash $66,782.93, Payroll to come $7,200; Pledges to come $41,505. YOUTH BOWLING: Lack of interest is the reason for the cancellation of this progran. CROSS COUNTRY SKI CLINIC: If you are interested please come in and regi ster; for those wishing to rent skiis, poles, boots, we will require your height, weight, shoe size. The dates for the fifteen hour pro- gram is February 2, 3, 4, 1979. Further data and brochures at the Schreiber recreation office. CONFEDERATION COLLEGE PROGRAMS: In co-operation with this office these programs are near finalization; Social Dancing, Bricklaying, Chinese- Cooking, In- come Tax, Mixology. Please watch these pages for further ad- vertisements and information. INTERIM STUDENT: Anne Giroux a Confederation College recreation student will be working with this office for the next four months. Her main responsibilities will be in the program area. BEAVER COLONY: ; A correction in the date for the Beaver Colony initial meet- ing is Tuesday, January 16th not the 17th. Some uniforms are RC RC in, more are expected shortly; letters will be going out to all in the near future. CHIMO CLUB: Kathleen Heggie, Consultant, with the Ministry of Community and Social Services met with Norm Norris, Recreation Co-ordina- tor, Aurel Gauthier, Clerk-Treasurer and Chimo Club executive members. The main thrust was to assist the Club with making applica- tion to the Elderly Person Centre Act and outline what has to be done locally in order to do same. The Township and recrea- tion office will be working closely with the club to reach this end. SEWING CLASSES (BASIC): Those classes will now start on Wednesday, January 17, not the 10th. Please register at the Recreation office, quickly.
