LE Ed Nt TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 29, 1978 THE LAKE SUPERIOR BOARD OF EDUCATION The Lake Superior Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, November 20th in the Marathon High School. Prior to the meeting a supper was held in honour of Chaiman Alex Gordon and Trustee Reg Ungar. A presentation was made by Gladys Fairservice to Alex Gordon for his services as Chairman during 1978. Also, in honour of their many years of service as school Trustees to the Lake Superior Board and its predecessor Boards, presentations were made to Reg Ungar from Marathon and Alex Gordon from Schreiber. ; In attendance at the supper and observing the proceedings for the meeting were newly elected Trustees Mrs. Pat Richardson fron Marathon and Mrs. Marlene Doig from Schreiber. Disbursements in the total amount of $1,116,643.01, which ind cludes Term Deposit Purchases in the amount of $800,000.00 for the month of October 1978, were approved. The Board accepted the resignation of Mrs. Verna Morin, JK Assistant for the Marathon Public School and approved the app- ointment of Mrs. Evelyn MacKenzie to this position effective November 1st. a ; Approval was granted for the following school excursions: Lake Superior Public School: Gr. 7 class to Thunder Bay, May 28 - 31, 1979; Gr. 8 class to Southern Ontario, May 28 - June 2, 1979. Marathon Public School: Gr. 8 class to Southern Ontario, May 19 - 27, 1979. Agreements between the Board and Elementary and Secondary Teachers for 1978-79 were approved. Approval was granted for the offering of a Math Computer Science credit course at Lake Superior High School as part of the Night School program. A fee of $25.00 will be charged to adults with no charge to day school students. A request from the Ontario Education Communications Author ity and Lakeshore Community Television to install a television receiving dish on the roof of 'the Manitouwadge High School for satellite reception of OECA television signals was approved for an experimental period of April, May and June 1979. Mr. Dave Ditchfield, a teacher with Lake Superior Public School, received approval for his request to apply for partici- pation in the International Teacher Exchange Program (United Kingdom) through the Ministry of Education for the 1979-80 sch- ool year. The Director presented a written report on activities since the regular meeting of the Board in October. Trustees were brought up to date concerning the selection of a Principal for Marathon High School and M. Twomey's activities in Thunder Bay where she attended the Regional Education Council Meeting and conducted a performance review of the Director of Education for the Lakehead Board of Education. It was agreed that the Inaugural meeting of the Board and the regular December meeting be combined. The date for this meeting will be Monday, December 11th at 19 00 in the Marathon High School, library. Committees and committee members for 1979 will be established during this meeting.
