PAGE 12 TERRACE BAY NEWS NOVEMBER 29, 1978 Phe: OME, Ruby Rebekah Lodge held their regular meeting on Wednesday, November 22nd, with Mrs. Gladys Hamilton, N.G. and Mrs. Mavis Slater, V.G. presiding. Mrs. Slater gave the Sick and Visiting Committee report. Several members were visited at home and given fruit etc. Mrs. Myrtle Gordon was installed into the Office of The Musician by Mrs. Helen Wallace and Staff. Mrs. M. Huller donated four pairs of hand knit socks and mitts which will be raffled at a later date. Anyone wishing to take part in the Unknown friend programme to have names in by the next meeting on December 13th. The Christmas party will be held following the meeting on December 13th. There will be an exchange of gifts priced be- tween $2.00 and $3.00. A program will be arranged followed by a pot luck lunch. ; Mrs. R. Macadam was instructed to choose a gift for the Bi rchwood Terrace Home for the Aged. Mrs. Mavis Slater will attend the Christmas party at the 1.0.0.F. in Barrie, Ontario on November 9th. Mrs. Slater won the evening prize. All en- joyed a social hour after the meeting ending with a lunch of Baron of Beef. Ruby Rebekah Lodge No. 279 SCHREIBER PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE FITNESS TRAIL Final brushing has been completed and the cutting, peeling and treating of poles for the exercise stations will start very soon. Work on the trail will begin again next spring with fur- ther development over the next couple of years. CHIMO CLUB The Chimo Club will be assisted by the Municipality in a sharing of costs for operation and maintenance and capital it- | ams. This now enables the club to make application to the Eld- arly Persons Act for grants. Norm Norris, Recreation Co-ordin -ator briefly outlined this Act and will meet again with the - axecutive to further talk on the peeds of the Club now and in the future. The new executive will be: F. AULTICULTURALI SM On Monday, November 20, 1978 Karen Boileau representing Thunder Bay Multiculturalism Society met with a few citizens of Schreiber, Discussion revolved around what was happening in Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden, Marathon, Manitouwadge. There is an effort being made now to enlighten other cultural groups in other communities to display and make the community aware of their wares. A conference will be held in Thunder Bay on February 9, 10, 11, 1979. For further information please call the recreation office. : MINERALOGY The weekend workshops held in Mineralogy were very infoma- tive and well received by those in attendance. Several areas were covered, some of these were rock or mineral recognition, identification, degree of angle. ARENA UPDATE As of November 24, 1978 the Township of Schreiber and the Schreiber Recreation Office received notice of approval of Wintario funding on the Recreation Complex. We will be recei- ving over one million dollars from Wintario. We have $336,000 dollars in cash, pledges and payroll deductions at this time. Those people who have made pledges, it would be appreciated if they would pay a portion or all of it within a few months. We also have an additional $183,000 dollars to raise above this so the people of Schreiber will be asked to support all fund raising projects and events in the coming months. SCHREIBER LADIES CURLING CLUB FORM NEW EXECUTIVE The Schreiber Ladies Curling Club held a meeting on Novem- ber 23, in the Club room. The Executive elected for the current season are President, Edie Birch; Vice President, Linda Tames; Secretary-Treasurer, Earline Johnson and Member- ship, Ruth.Hiller. Dues for this year have been set at $35.00. Ladies evening curling will begin on Monday, December 11th, all ladies interested in evening curling may contact Charlotte Miller at 824-2330, for information. A starting date has not been set for afternoon curling. 1ST ANNUAL MEETING OF SCHREIBER COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION LIMITED Yvon Beauparlant presided for the 1st annual meeting of the Schreiber Community Credit Union Limited, Formerly the C.P.R. Employees Credit Union, held in the Town Hall on Nov=- ember 17th. Welcomed as guests were Jim Zebruck, Regional Examiner, Ontario Credit Union League, who was available to answer ques- tions regarding changes to the new general by-laws for Credit Unions, and Bill Don.on, Commercial Representative, Co-Operat -ors Insurance Co., the insurers of local Credit Unions shares and loans. Members learned with regret that Jim is being transferred to Hamilton, Ont. Vice-President, Fred Harness presented a gift to Charter Member, Cyril Sparkes, in recognition of 28 continuous years of service to the Credit Union, a gift was a'so presented to Mrs. Alice Sparkes.
