Almost every citizen, at some time in his or her life sees the inside of a hospital as a patient. In an average year, it is probable that one out of every six of your friends or acquaintenances, or, to put it another way, someone from every third or fourth house along any street, required admission to "hospital. Still more people required and received some other type of hospital service during the year. The hospital, there fore, is the fogal point for a wide variety of skills and equipment which it mobilizes and co-ordinates and which are directed to a common goal, the restoration of health and the prevention of illness. ! Every pub}ic hospital in Ontario has a Board of Directors, or trustees, who are legally responsible for the management of the hospital. ' The McCausland Hospital Board is made up of twelve wierd, eight of whom are volunteers elected from the membership of the hospital corporation at the hospital's annual 'meeting. There are four ex-officio members of the Board: a representative of the medical staff, a representative from each municipality of Terrace Bay, Schreiber and Pays Plat, and a representative of The McCausland Hospital Ladies! Auxiliary. These people represent the collective interest of the whole community and accept responsibilities which are real and de- manding, for it is their duty to ensure the best quality heal- th care while at the same time keeping within a controlled operating budget. The Board of Directors delegates responsibility for the actual operation of "the hospital to the Administrator Donald E. Ross and delegates to the Medical Staff the medical care fithin the thospital, but each Board member is kept well- Ed : continued page 2 ....... OLLIE CHAPMAN RE-ELECTED CHAIRMAN At the 6th Annual Northwestern Ontario Municipal Recreation Association Conference held at the Airlane Motor Hotel in Thun- der Bay on October 13, 14 and 15th, 011ie Chapman of Terrace Bay was re-elected chaiman of the Association. Other delegat- es elected to serve on the Northwestern Board were Clay Petta- piece of Manitouwadge, Marlene Yurick of Murillo, Peter Fanning of Thunder Bay, Lydia Ferguson of Fort Frances and Alfred Eber- hardt of Dyrden. Mrs. Chapman was also re-elected as Board Member to the On- tario Municipal Recreation Association for the Eastern District of Thunder Bay. She also holds the office of Executive Secre- tary of the Ontario Municipal Recreation Association.
