PAGE 14 TERRACE BAY NEWS OCTOBER 25, 1978 SCHREIBER PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE MINOR HOCKEY MEETING: Schreiber Minor Hockey held its first meeting of the season at the Public School on October 18, 1978. Nom Norris, Recreation Co-ordinator, Schreiber, Chic Thompson, Tom Pollard of Terrace Bay Minor Hockey were in att- endance. Norm explained what position the existing arena was in, in relation to opening and the avenues Council was exploring to open the facility; the Schreiber Recreation Committee's pos- ition was talked on pertaining to outdoor rinks. The two minor hockey executives discussed the possibilities of bringing the two associations together forming a House League. CONFEDERATION COLLEGE PROGRAMS: Mineralogy has had a change of one Friday evening, the first weekend session will now be October 28 and 29th. ORGANIC GARDENING: There is a similar change of date for this workshop, to October 28th and 29th. UPHOLSTERY: Persons that have at registered for the program please come to the Schreiber Recreation Office before November 1st. CAKE DECORATING: On November 24, 25, 26 an advanced cake decorating program will be held in Schreiber. Persons having taken the basic pro= gram are eligible. SOCIAL (BALLROOM) DANCING: Are you interested in learning a new step, or maybe just improving on what you can do at present. All this will be available to you on October 29, 30 and November 4, Sth. in Schreiber at the Public School gym. ARENA UPDATE: It is hoped that this will put to sleep a rumour about Kimberly-Clark taking back the recreation complex at the mill site. The generosity of Kimberly-Clark has extended our date from October 28th to November 30th, for completing the trans- action. There is a letter on file at the Municipal and Recrea- tion Offices if the public wishes to read same. In addition Gateway has allowed us to extend our date for signing a contract until March 30, 1979, SCHREIBER FIGURE SKATING CLUB: There will be a general meeting, Wednesday, October 25th at 8 p.m. in Room 8 of the Lake Superior Public School, Schrei- ber Campus. ALL THOSE INTERESTED, PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND SEWING CLASSES: At the present time we are investigating and planning, cost- ing a basic 'and possibly an advanced 'sewing program. - This will not begin until the new year, however -if you would be interested in the above please call the recreation office. BRICKLAY I NG: A person in the community has asked if a course could be done in Schreiber. The College has been asked to look into it; if you are interested please let us know at the office. : SCHREIBER MINOR HOCKEY: : There will be a meeting Wednesday, November 1, in the Schrei- ber Public School. Rubp Rebekah Lodge No. 279 Mrs. Gladys Hamilton V,G. as N.G. and Mrs. Mavis P.P. as V.G. presided for the regular meeting of Ruby Rebekah Lodge 279. The charter was draped in memory of Mrs. Daphne Kenealy, Past President of the |.A.R.A. Mrs. Sparkes gave Semi Annual report on Lodge property. Helen D'Arcy assisted her in this inventory. A donation was forwarded to the "President's Project" for the Home at Barrie, - a whirlpool bath. The Sick and Visiting Committee convener reported sending several greeting and sympathy cards to members. The C.P.T. Committee was given by Mrs. Slater. New hospital equipment to replace old or lost equipment has been ordered. A donation of money has been received from a grateful user of the equipment. Correspondence included notes of thanks from Mesd. M. Simon, C. Weaver and L. Wilson, and a request for support, from the Navy League of Canada. A birthday gift was presented to Mrs. Florence Higgins a Charter Member of Ruby Lodge, on her 90th birthday. Mrs. Ham- ilton made the presentation. A farewell gift was presented to Mrs. Winnie Clemens on be- half of the Lodge members, by Mrs. Mavis Slater. Mrs. Clemens with her husband who recently retired, have taken up residence near Wiarton, Ont. A pot luck supper Will be held on Wednesday, Octeber 25th, at 6 p.m. in the United Church Hall, preceding the meeting, at 8 p.m., when Installation of Officers will take place with Mrs. Margaret Johnston and her installing team from Greenstone Lodge conducting the installation of officers. Mrs. Mrs. Anne Etches recently. returned from several weeks vaca- tion visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. Etches at Callender, Ont. and other relatives in and around North Bay. ug G.H.
