PAGE 10 TERRACE BAY NEWS OCTOBER 4, 1978 L:S:H:S: WINS CONSOLATION On Friday and Saturday, September 29th and 30th, Lake Sup- erior High School participated in the N.S.S.S.A.A. Soccer Championship in Geraldton and won the consolation championship In the opening game against Hornepayne, Lake Superior won 5-0. Goal scorers were Pat Moher with two goals and Norm Beaulieu, Vaughn Tremblay and Paul Dashkewytch with one each. Lake Superior then defeated Chapleau 3-0 to finish first in the A Division. Paul Barry, Norm Beaulieu and Brad Bertin scored the goals. Bryan Whitney was in goal for both wins. On Saturday in the semi-final game, Lake Superior lost 2-1 to the tournament champions, Geraldton. Norm Beaulieu scored the lone goal. : In the Consolation Championship game, Lake Superior defeat- ed Manitouwadge 2-1. Pat Moher and Don Mills scored the goals. This completed the most successful season ever for the Lake Superior Soccer team. The team was coached by Bill McDougall and John Vandergraaf. FATAL ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 17 A fatal accident occured on Sunday, October 1st approx- imately seven kilometers east of Terrace Bay. A Hyndman Transport destined for Winnipeg lost control and tipped over onto the shoulder of the road, where it slid into a guard rail. The driver, Joseph Isley, 46, of Fergus, Ontario was thrown from the vehicle and killed. A post-mortem has been ordered. The transport was carrying approximately 112 heads of cattle, many of which were killed on impact or by suffoca- tion. A similar accident occured in July around the same vicin- ity, involving a load of cattle being transported by the Hyndman Company as well. This transport was sent to Thunder Bay where it was examined for mechanical difficulties. How- ever, it is unlikely that the transport invo 1véd in the re- cent accident will be sent for examination. Hunters asked if they could shoot the suffering cattle, but their requests for the meat were refused by the Ontario Provincial Police of Schreiber, who were the investigating detachment. BROWNIE -- GUIDE -- RANGER NEWS The first meeting of the Local Association was held September 25th. Mrs. Deanna Stachiw will be taking regis- tration by phone at 825-3591 for new girls wishing to join Brownies. Any girl born in the year 1971, 1970, 1969 is welcome. THREE MOOSE ENTER TOWNSITE On the evening of September 25th at approximately 10 p.m., three moose were spotted near the Recreation Centre by some young people in the area. The youths proceeded to chase the noose and older youths decided that*it would be fun to harass them in cars. After being pursued and harassed for several hours, the moose became very frightened and did some damage to cars in their attempt to escape. At approximately 3 a.m., the family of Sam Stojko of 441 Superior were awakened when one moose crashed through the livingroom window. The Terrace Bay Police were called and Constable John London located the moose at 5 a.m. and was forced to shoot the animal, who by this time was in a state of shock. The other two were spotted later in the morning near the Ministry of Natural Resources. The dead moose was taken to Pays Pla. where it will be used as food for the native people. : Geothermal Power In 1977, American scientists created the first man-made geothermal well system.
