PAGE 10 TERRACE BAY NEWS AUGUST 16, 1978 Sports Travelcade - continued from page 9 .. Terrace Bay in conjunction with the Sports Travelcade. There is no charge for the clinic and will involve player skills, coaching and officiating tips. WINTARIO GRANTS Clubs, organizations would be eligible for Wintario fund- ing on sports equipment or other areas. We have information that could be valuable to you; give the Recreation Office a call or drop in and see us, we may be able to assist. WINTER ACTIVITIES . Many young people have been asking the Recreation Office if there will be Minor and Junior Hockey, Figure Skating, Ringette, etc; this winter. For the hockey part my understanding at this writing is ice time has been arranged for, verbally, at Terrace Bay. A meeting with the figure skaters and ringette people indic- ate that they also, would book ice in Terrace Bay. So, if we are unable to open the existing arena, these steps are taken care of, now. ARENA UPDATE In the last newsletter one paragraph on the old arena may give some the thoughts that money will be put into the facil- ity for repair. This is not the case, what was meant is, we felt that to repair the structure it would take at least $300,000. and this is what the Enriched Wintario Grant should be based upon, not $120,000. The total raised publicly now, is at $110,203.00. The new preliminary drawings from Gateway Builders have been received, anyone wishing to see these drop into the Recrea- tion Office. There is a new total on the July 1st Dance, $2038.46, a . $400.00 donation from the Whistle Stop Lounge to pay for the band. FITNESS TRAIL GRANT The grant from the Ministry cf Community and Social Serv- ices - Regional Childrens Services Brand for $5,800.00. The Schreiber Kinsmen Club have put their support behind the project and we will try to develop the trail with a park. Hopefully, this will begin very shortly. PLAYGROUNDS This program also, came to a close on Friday, August 11 with a very entertaining series of skits put on by the play- ground people. In the coming years we can only go upward with this pro- gram as the response was very good. : The younger group also, did a tour of the Post Office, which was very interesting. J CURLING CLUB Mentioned in last week's column, was that there had been a change in the Wintario criteria pertaining to the club turn- ing over the facility to the Township. The cut off date for applications was August 1, 1978. This is a definite deadline, what is not official is the cri- teria or guidelines governing such cases. - The official word is being printed now, in Toronto, and will be available by the months end. In other words the future does not Took bright for the way that was being persued by us. A meeting will be arranged with the Curling Club, Council to discuss further prospects. BOXING RING Do you know where the boxing ring, that we had a few years back, would be located? Call the Recreation Office if you have some information on this; 824-2317.
