Public tts Ter ary VOL, 21 No. 29 AUGUST 2, 1978 20¢ PER COPY FEDERAL FUNDS FOR SENIORS' HOUSING IN SCHREIBER THUNDER BAY, Ontario: July 28, 1978: More than six-hundred thousand federal government dollars have been released to finance the construction of a senior citizens' housing project in Schreiber, Urban Affairs Minister Andre Ouellet announced today. The funds, in the form of a Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation loan, actually total $604,905. The project will be built on Winnipeg Street near the town's core shopping area. Twenty-three one-bedroom apart- ments will be arranged in a two-storey walk-up building set on tastefully land- scaped grounds which will also feature garden-plots for the residents' use. Construction is expected to start this summer with completion scheduled for July, 1979. Rents in the new building will be geared to tenants' incomes with the re- quired operating subsidies, estimated to be about $90,500 a year, shared by CMHC (50 per cent), the Ontario Housing Cor- poration (42% per cent), and the township (7% per cent). OHC is the borrower of the capital funds just released. The CMHC loan will yield 10% per cent interest over 50 years. COUNCIL QUOTES The regular meeting of the Council of the Township of Terrace Bay was held on July 24, attended by Reeve C. Brassard, Councillors M. Hamilton and G. Ramsay, Clerk-Co-ordinator W. Hanley and M. Simmer. Minutes of the regular and special meetings were adopted as presented. The Honourable Pauline McGibbon, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will be visiting Terrace Bay on September 20th, at which time a small dinner party will be held in her honour at Birchwood Terrace. She will visit with the school children during the afternoon. Constable W. Fenton of the Terrace Bay Police Department has been promoted to Third 'Class Constable and he will attend a Proba- tionary "B" Course at the Aylmer Police Col- lege from November 14th until December 15th. A motion was passed to accept the latest revised edition of the Curling Club Agreement. Council and the Planning Committee honoured Mr. and Mrs. Grant Puttock with a dinner at the Rossport Inn, preceded by a cocktail hour at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. Brassard. The Puttocks will be leaving for their new destin- ation on August 15th. At the special meeting on July 12th, a mot- ion was passed to request a grant from the : Ministry of Housing under the Community Plan- ning Study Grant Program for preparation of base and land use mapping, zoning by-law and schedules, to be carried out by "Municipal Planning Consultants", Toronto, for prepara- tion of a comprehensive zoning by-law based on the contents of their proposal of June 23/78 A motion was also passed to authorize en- tering into an agreement with Kimberly-Clark of Canada Ltd., to lease land for a municipal airport.
