VoL. 21 NO, 27 JuLy 19, 1978 Public Library Terrace Bay, Ont. 20¢ PER COPY SENIOR CITIZENS' HOUSING | have been advised by the Ministry of Housing that they have purchased from the Township of Schreiber the necessary land on which to construct 23 senior citizen units in two storey design. Tenders for the construction of the buildings were called during the latter part of March and closed April 27, 1978. Two bids were received; one from Engineered Structures and Compon- ents for $590,000.00 and one from West York Construction Limit- ed for $628,000. Housing approved the contract to the lowest bidder, Engineered Structures and Components of Toronto, Ont. Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation is expected to shortly approve the 90% loan toward the building cost. The Ontario Government's Housing Ministry is awaiting approval © from the Management Board for the remainder of the capital funding. The final design drawings are now being prepared and as soon as they are submitted and the plans approved construction can commence. : | am hopeful that construction can start in the early part of August or the middle of that month. | think this is welcome news to those senior citizens in Schreiber who require this * much needed accommodation. 2 - Statement from Jack Stokes, M.P.P, for Lake Nipigon Riding LAKE SUPERIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION The 1978 Lake Superior High School Graduates held a dinner sponsored by the Ladies of the Moose prior to their graduation ceremony held on Wednesday, June 28th. Ed Taylor, Vice Principal was the master of ceremonies. Rev. Father Meyer gave the Invocation to open the ceremony. Joan Nugent, trustee for the Lake Superior Board of Education congratulated the graduates on behalf of the Board. Bill "Houston, Vice Principal introduced the Director of Education, Marg Twomey who encouraged the graduates to continue learning not only the basic skills but also the skills required for + living. continued page 2 «eeeeeeesssenassenees LOCAL MILITIA TRAINS IN SASKATCHEWAN Militia men from Terrace Bay and Schreiber were among the 1100 part-time soldiers from the three Prairie Provinces and Northwestern Ontario that trained this summer at the Militia Training Centre in Dundurn, near Saskatoon. - Seen kneeling (left to right) are Privates Denis Arsen- ault, Ken Seidel, Tim Richardson (Schreiber) and John DePaola.
