JUNE 21, 1978 TERRACE: BAY NEWS PAGE 19 GRADE THREE TOUR SHIP On June 14th, 1978, the Grade 3 class from Holy Angels School went on a tour of the Bayfield - a government ship docked at Rossport Marina. First.we went to the control tower. Everyone turned the steering wheel and someone blew the whistle. We looked at the land and water around the boat with radar. Then we took a tiny elevator down to the dining room and rested our legs. Next we saw the engine room and where the crew sleeps. After the tour the cook served cookies and juice. UNITED CHURCH WOMEN: The United Church Women began their June meeting with a dinner in the Restaurant LeBlanc, after which they went on to the church hall for their meeting with Mrs. Beth Macadam, presiding. Fourteen members attended. Plans were completed for catering for a wedding dinner on June 24th, A hand knit sweater was received from Mrs. Lila Walker, to be drawn for at the Fall Fair - tickets available from any UCW members. Follow= SCHREIBER SOCIAL: The Schreiber Kinettes held their annual party for former Kinettes in Eva Gordon's camp on Lake Superior, with fourteen guests attending. The evening began with a pot luck dinner, followed by a meeting. Then a contest and social hour of visiting was enjoyed, after which dessért and coffee were served. A.A. Small, Superintendant of the Schreiber Division for the past three and a half years, has been promoted by C.P. Rail, going to Montreal where he will be on Special Duties with Jim Geddis, Chief of Transportation, effective July 1st. Doris McParland, daughter of Gordon and Phyllis McParland, during the past year has entered on a new career, finding a ready market for her paintings. This talent has only been discovered in the past year. Doris, a native of Schreiber, had been working with Bell Telephone as an operator and then at various jobs in Calgary. While home on sick leave, with the encouragement of Joan Niemi a local painter, she discovered she had a talent as an artist. On returning to Calgary she showed a display of her work, sponsored by the Art Supply Gallery. A market was found for her work and she will shortly devote her time to painting. Barbara Ann Mclaughlin, Schreiber postmaster, has returned after attending the Diamond Jubilee convention, a four day event, held in Hamilton last week. Kevin O'Brien has been promoted, by C,P. Rail to assistant Supt. in London. Mr. 0'Brien, a native of Schreiber, was a conductor and has been acting as trainmaster. He will be missed in the town, in the various organizations he took part in and from his position on the town council. ROSSPORT SOCIAL: Miss Anna Bain, bride elect for this month, was honoured at a shower on Saturday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Gwen Gerow. Her mother assisted her in receiving the guests and they were presented with corsages of spring flowers by the bride's aunt Mrs. Walter Gerow. Two contests were enjoyed. A clothes pin contest was won by Linda Joiner and the portrait drawn of the Bride was won by Patsey Campbell. The bride was seated in" a gaily decorated chair and her mother and a sister assisted her to open the numerous gifts. Melanie Bain looked after the guest book. A series of bingos were planned by St. Berchman's Altar Society for the summer and it was decided to purchase some pot- ting plants for the grotto of St. Berchman when the Altar Society met Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. R.T, Kenney. The president, Mrs, Pat Leisander presided and led in the open -ing and closing prayer. Devona Leisander read the minutes and correspondence. Thank you cards were filed and Mrs. Herb Legault presented the treasurer's financial statement. 1t was announced that the new electric sweeper for the church had been received and that a parishioner had been hired to cut the grass at the church. A report was heard on the church clean- ing and information obtained on new steel doors for the church porch. Following adjournment, luncheon was served and a social hour enjoyed. a 7:30 P.M. There will be an important discussion held at this meet- ing. Your interest is greatly needed. Last meeting only 1 attended. Need more people to take an interest in order that we can provide better hockey.
