George E, Riley passed away at the Louise Marshall Hospi- Burial from the Hendrich Funeral Home was in the Mount tal Mount Forest, on May 24th in his 85th year. He was the " Forest Cemetery. The pallbearers were three grandsons, eldest son of the late E.C. and Marj Ann Riley and was born Danny, Dale and Shane Riley of Schreiber and three nephews, at Port Arthur, Ontario on February 6, 1894. At the age "Gordon Riley, Bob Evans, Mount Forest and Jack Evans, of two years he moved with his family to Schreiber, Ontario, Malton. then a young town opening up on the main Tine of the C.P.Re In his early years he became a Call-boy for that company, working up to brakeman, then conductor, serving some time as yard master and as Train Master. When he retired in 1957, he was Conductor on the Canadian running between Chapleau and Fort William. Later in 1957, he moved to Mount Forest and he enjoyed his retirement by spend- ing a great deal of time at his favourite pastimes - fishing, curling and lawn bowling. Always an ardent lover of sports and outdoor life, he played both hockey and baseball in his younger years. On August 25th, 1920 he was married in Mount Forest to the former Ethel Evans and until coming to Mount Forest, they spent their married years in Schreiber. In 1970 they celebrated their Golden Anniversary. George is survived by his wife; two sons, William E. of Bellville and George A, of Schreiber; one daughter, Betty, Mrs. Grant Darling, Kapuskasing; five grandsons; five grand- daughters and five great grandchildren mourn the, passing of a loving grandfather; two brothers, Herbert, White River and Clifford, Terrace Bay; two sisters, Victoria, Mrs. Robert Winters and Phyllis, Mrs, Wally Greenshield both of Schreiber. George was a member of the United Church, a life member of the Schreiber Curling Club, a member of the Mount Forest ROSSPORT SOCIAL: Eugene and Prina Gerow holidayed with friends in Espanola while Mrs. Anne Todesco, R.T. Kenney and son Edward and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Campbell were Thunder Bay visitors. : Mrs. Linda Joiner enjoys knitting as a hobby. In fact she enjoys it so much that she has it down to a fine art. She draws and designs her own patterns. Her husband, John, ~ who is the Battle Island 1ightkeeper, wanted a sweater coat in blue with a white lighthouse on the back and his small tug ~de into a design on the front. So Linda, in her ingenious way took an illustration of a plain sweater and cleverly blocked in a design of the lighthouse and tug into the stitches, which resulted in an attractive sweater in roy- al blue with a white tug and lighthouse trimmed in red. She copied the 'outline of the tug and lighthouse from pictures. Now son, Andy wants a sweater just like daddy's, so she is busy blocking in the design ih a smaller size.
