FAIL +10 TERRACE BAY NEWS MAY 31, 1978 31ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION The Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 109 Schreiber celebrated their 31st birthday on May 20th, starting with a dinner attended by forty-seven. Nine attended from Terrace Bay headed by Shirley Caron, first vice president; six from Marathon with Grace Frisken president; and one other nender from Nipigon. Greetings were received from White River Branch, explaining their inability to attend. Georgina Davis, president, was the M.C., surrounded at the head table by her executive - Chris Dunham, first vice; Ruth Hiller, second vice; Rena Ross, treasurer; and Vanita McKenna, secretary; Mrs. Frisken and Mrs. Caron. The birthday cake, made and decorated by Mavis Godin, was cut be Georgina Davis, president and herfirst and second vice presidents. Inez McCuaig was presented with her twenty-five year pin and a gift. 5 The dinner was a smorgasbord, prepared by the United Church Women - several of whom are members of the Auxiliary. Following the dinner, an impromptu program was enjoyed. Isabelle Delaronde and Addie Beaulieu of Terrace Bay, providing their usual amusing patter of jokes and a hilarious skit by _ Beth Macadam and Charlotte Miller. In the evening a capacity crowd attended the dance, when, to the delight of the crowd, the draw prize was won by the popular band Patrick McGuire and Trio of Red Rock, whose repertoire pleased all ages. CHIMO CLUB MEETING Twenty-eight attended the May meeting of the Chimo Club with Helen Wallace presiding: Alice Sparkas read the minutes and correspondence which included a Tetter concerning Senior Cit- izens Week and a letter from the Nipigon Club saying they approved Mrs. Wallace acting as Zone 2 representative for the "balance of this year. Mrs. Wallace will attend the May 26 meeting in the Herb Carroll Centre in Thunder Bay. A letter from Richard E. Doe, corresponding secretary north western Ontario 'Alliance stated they were pleased to have Hel- en Wallace attend the recent meeting and added that a letter has been sent to William Moore, Nipigon Club, asking him to --call a meeting of Zone 2. "Mrs. Wallace reported there will be a conference qn Oct. 2 and 3 in the Royal Edward Hotel, Thunder Bay. Winners in the recent home card draw were !Co' Figliomeni, and Mrs, Stachiw, with lucky number winners being Marg Nesbitt, Helen LeBlanc and Leona Leisander. Beth Macadam announced a Games Night will be held in Birch- wood Terrace on June 13, at 7 p.m. : A farewell gift was presented to Louella Ginn who is ing for a new home in Mirror, Alberta. Birthday greetings were sung to Lily Wilson, Mavis Slater, and Russell Macadam. The gifts they presented for a draw were won by Marg Spillane, Inez McCuaig and Winnie Campbell. The June 16th meeting will be preceded by a pot Tuck supper at' 5430. leay- BOARD MEETING The regular meeting of The North of Superior District R.C. SeS. Board held Saturday, May 13, 1978, opened with prayer. Approval was given to the minutes of Board Meeting No. We held April 15, 1978, and to the Statement of Accounts for the % month of April, 1978. 3 The Ministry of Education had adil that no capital funds for 1978 have been allotted to this board. With regard to the submission for a Gym for Holy Angles School, the Board agreed ; that the Regional Director of Education, Ministry of Education, Thunder Bay, should be contacted .as a first step in resolving the matter. ; Fc' "wing a discussion on vandalism and motorized vehicles on school property, it was decided that policy would be estab=- lished prohiviting the use of motorized vehicles on school pro ¢ -perty and a warning that acts of vandalism will be prosecuted. Once policy is established, signs will be posted on the school grounds to this effect, A motion was passed accepting the school year calendars for 1978-79 under the provisos that the number of professional ac- tivity days be reduced to 8, the use of these days emphasize professional development, and that no professional activity days be used for parent-teacher interviews. i The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on Sat. June 17, 1978 in St. Brigid School, Nakina. ROSSPORT SOCIAL: . Mr. and Mrs. Dave Mushguash and daughter Della motored to Sioux Lookout to spend the holiday weekend with their son Peter and wife Tony. Mrs. Olive Cherutti, Mr. and Mrs. Waugh and daughters of Thunder Bay visited Mrs. Eileen Rouble on the holiday weekend ids Waid h i! | and also spent some time at Mrs. Cherutti! $ summer cap at Steel River. The young people of the village have started their football and softball games now that the snow is gone. Most evenings they engage in pick-up games on the school lot, and from the clieers' and noise that can be heard, some lively skirmishes are being enjoyed.
