Everyone Welcome i MAY 17, 1978 1 NORTHERN Ee AFFAIRS by JIM TRISTRAM ; : Spring has sprung, and with. it summer camps will be opening with the recreation season in full swing shortly. Last year in Northwestern Ontario there was a fatality of a tourist which was caused by carbon monoxide poisoning eman= ating from a faulty propane refrigerator. The coroner recommended that more publicity should be given to the responsibility of people to have gas appliances checked each season - especially when only used seasonally as they are generally in our area. Regulation 255 under the Energy Act - Part 1 Section 5(1) states: *No person shall use an appliance that uses propane as fuel, if, (a) the products of combustion of the appliance are unsafe; (b) any device, attachment, alteration or deteriora- tion-might in any way, (1) Impair the combustion within the appliance (11) Render the products of combustion - unsafe. It is strongly recommended that if you oun or operate a propane refrigerator, have it serviced annually and kept in good. working order. An ounce of prevention is worth a summer of worry free recreation. If you require technical material concerning the mainte- nance of propane refrigerators, please contact your nearest Ministry of Industry and Tougism, Tourism Development Consul= tant or your Northern Affairs Office located lower floor Pen- insula Building, 2 Gilbert Street, Marathon or telephone 229-1153.
