APRIL 12, 1978 TERRACE BAY NEWS TERRACE BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT 4-9 April 1978: Police wepe kept busy this past week with an assortment of complaints. Three persons were reported as being missing and two have since been located. One report of false pretences is being investigated after a local business man disposed of some cheques which were sub- sequently found and cashed. One chain saw has been stolen from the cutting area in the vicinity of the airport expansion. One charge of intoxication has been laid, four persons were charged with consuming while under the age of 18 years and two motorists were charged with driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available. Five charges under the Highway Traffic act were also laid during this period. One pick-up truck was reported stolen and a Terrace Bay youth has been charged with joy-riding. This vehicle has since been recovered with no damage resulting. One charge of willful damage has also been reported when a CB antennae was broken off a car. One charge of forgery is under investigation when a person purchased goods on a credit card, and signed another persons name. : Constable James Chisholm has joined the force as a second class constable. Constable Chisholm is a 10 year member of the Espanola Police Force and is presently residing at 140A Birch Crescent with his wife Helen. HUSKINS PRESIDENT OF N.D.P, LAKE NIPIGON RIDING ---- -- ------------ ---- -- -------------- Harry Huskins of Terrace.Bay was elected president of the Lake Nipigon Riding New Democratic Party at the Annual Meeting held in Schreiber on April 8th. The following slate was also elected: Ted Nyman of Nipigon 1st vice-president; W,G. Gerow of Schreiber 2nd vice-president; Elizabeth Perrault of Schreiber secretary; Elmer Persson union representative; Tom Quinton of Schreiber membership chaiman. Trustees elected were Mildred Barrett of Geraldton, Goldie Nyman of Nipigon, Leo Tookenay of Schreiber, Jack Warwick of Marathon and George Gordon of Schreiber. Because. of his experience and expertise in the position of treasurer, Harry Huskins, former treasurer, agreed to act in this dual capacity for the year. The executive will appoint the northern area council . representatives, Geothermal Power Energy specialists claim that 3 geothermal resources in the U.S. could produce 140,000 megawatts of electric power for 30 years. FOR RESERVATIONS OR INQUIRIES ; PAGE 13 n : " HOLIDAY ON ICE -------------------------- Snowbirds, hill-billies, and Arabians were just a few of the characters to be seen when the Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club presented its carnival "Holiday On Ice" at the arena on April 7th and 8th, The program began with'"A Tribute to Elvis" by Joyce Kurylo, Denyse Desrosiers, Jennifer Kodila, Jane Colbey-Hara, Carrie Pytyck, Kelly Clark, Linda Pauksty, Darleen Woods, Eleanor De- poala, Heather Saranpaa, Nancy Gerlach, Cheryl Prill, Laurie Pollard, and Maureen Caldwell. Dressed in sweaters, plaid skirts, ponytails and bobby socks, the girls jived to the strains of "Little Darlin". A global tour came next, beginning with the North Pole where | Santa (Mark Saranpaa) skated to "Jingle Bells" and Mrs. Claus, (Tracy Clark) skated to "My Favourite Things". Their chaming elves were Lana Dampier, Anna Strapko, Sophie Brassard, Brandy Leary, Krista Walterhouse and Angela Stachiw. Betty Hopper was "Susy Snowflake" and Martin Saranpaa was Frosty the Snowman. The lovely northern lights were Catherine Farrell, Pamela Men- chenton, Kerri McColeman, Shannon Lever, Krista Ditchfield, Raija Luikkonen, Linda Geralch, Helena Laitenen, Paula Boucharc and Lisa Heinrich, Kelly Clark, Cheryl Prill and Jane Colbey- Hara, as three snowmen, skated to "Sleigh Ride". were Nancy Gerlach, Jennifer Kodila and Heather Saranpaa. The program moved to sunny Spain, where Eleanor Depoala as a sen- orita did a flamenco number and Joyce Kurylo, Darlene Woods and Denyse Desrosiers were a band of gypsies. To pg. 14 ...
