Offer lasts from March 16th to March 31st 'DONUT HOLE' On Friday, March 10th, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Commun- ity Church held a very successful Coffee morning - called the 'Donut Hole'. There were donuts tc eat and also take out orders. A large crowd attended with the Ladies in the Ki fahen - working all day to fill the orders. A friendly atmosphere prevailed throughout the day. The project was convened by Linda Hutchinson. During the coffee hour items of crafts were on sale, capably handled by Willie Fortier. Many beau- tiful hand made crotcheted items, knitting and felt toys de- corated the table. The highlight of this pre-Easter sale was the beautiful stuffed toys, large pink rabbits, chicks and ducks with a !'Tamar! original being a large green turtle called Myrtle that delighted all the cljildren present. FORTIN WINS NOMINATION FOR COCHRANE Bob Fortin of Cochrane won the Nomination as the federal NDP candidate in the federal election expected sometime this spring. The announcement that Mr. Fortin would seek the fed- eral nomination was made at a press conference in Kapuskasing last week. He said that his decision to seek the nomination was prompted by the support which he received from his provin- cial executive. The 500 member-Association held its Nomination Meeting in . Schreiber on Saturday and Mr. Fortin was unopposed. Jack Stokes, the Provincial Member for Lake Nipigon, and guest speaker; noted the immense size of the new federal riding which at 165,000 square miles is half as large again as his own Lake Nipigon Riding. The Candidate said that he feels he has an excellent chance of winning the riding and is counting on the widespread disenchantment with the present member for the former riding of Cochrane, Ralph Stewart. Mr. Stewart has indicated that he intends to run on the Liberal ticket in the new riding. *The new Cochrane riding includes large portions of the Algoma and Lake Nipigon Ridings presently held by provincial NDP members Jack Stokes and Bud Wildman. Familiar with Parliament Hill, Mr. -~ Fortin served as Executive Assistant to Tommy Douglas, ha former leader of the NDP, and to John Rodriquez, the M,P. for 8 Nickelbelt, and one of the North's outstanding members. A cycle which has dis- = NORA MCGUIRE: EQUINE MANAGEMENT = Nora McGuire of Schreiber is enrolled in the Equine Manage -ment program at Algonquin College. Nora is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darcy McGuire of Schreiber. The Highway 31 campus in Greely, Ontario, prepares people for a future as grooms; assistant veterinarians, managerial position or related fields. Females outnumber males in the program by twenty to one = literally. Girls are more interested in horse care, whereas men like riding more, according to teacher Georgia Gale Kidd. The course is both practical and theoretical. Students, in four hours of lectures daily, are taught nutrition, breed- ing, stable manners and equine husbandry. English, business and the environments courses are also given by commuting teachers, The twenty students are divided into three groups to share the chores around the stables for the twenty-three horses.
